With what fell, I could probably build a decent sized doghouse and roof it with shingles.

I know far less about what's going on than people outside of town, just because of no power. I haven't even seen the areas that really got hit hard yet because you're not supposed to drive around down there.

Boston.com always has amazing pictures. This view is unbelievable. The trees all snapped in half...

You're right. Poor timing on my part. It just made me insanely angry.

I'm sorry for your loss. It does sound like he was trying to shield him. There's no greater love than to give one's life in defense of another. Guy's a hero. Prayers for your family.

I had one of those moments yesterday evening where you know you'll always remember where you were when it first went down. Kind of like 9-11, OKC bombings, Olympic Park bombings, DC snipers, Katrina, etc. I swung by the gas station on the way home to grab some beer, and as I walk in there is a television hung in the corner with CNN broadcasting the tornado going through Tuscaloosa. There were literally about 20 people just standing there, mouths open in disbelief. We all just stood there in disbelief.

My brother-in-law was found this morning. Unfortunately, he was killed. He was in a store in Tuscaloosa when the storm hit. Everyone inside the store perished.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Sounds like a brave man.

The guy is an a-hole, and better hope to hell that karma is just a myth.

Just got off the phone with a buddy of mine. He's in Pleasant Grove now. His aunt's mom lives there. Had to walk in, as they're not letting vehicles past. Said he's probably walked 8 to 10 miles, said the path is about 1/4 mile wide, 2 foot trees twisted off and just stubble left. Found his family, all ok, but the house is missing the main level completely.

So sorry for your loss. Your post yesterday stuck out to me more than any others and I was really hoping for a different outcome. My condolences to your whole family, but especially your wife and his wife.

My boss' uncle tried to get to this house in Pleasant Grove a little bit ago. He got within two house of his and Federal Marshalls stopped him. They said there was a major gas leak in the area.

I'll be in Tuscaloosa on Sunday trying to do what I can. Anything formal they are doing with volunteers?

I just don't want to be in the way, really.
