Nice job, too. I would edit my post, but it was pretty damn sweet, and apropos at the time, so it stays.

But, nonetheless.

Bama has 12 4-star WR's on their roster. Coaching was a problem and we solved that.

This has been one of my only complaints the last few years. Alabama seems to get plenty of talented WRs but they don't seem to live up to potential / get better. There are talented WRs on the team (no Julio-type guy, but a lot of very good players), but I don't think they have been getting coached up.

Will be interesting to see how much the offense is tweaked. Without Julio being option 1, 2, and 4 on every passing down, I hope that McElwain and the QBs work on getting more of a spread it around attack. Could be quite a different passing scheme then we have seen the last three years.

We were hitting him all day long.

I can't remember the LSU game specifically, but I know McElroy had a huge problem with holding on to the ball way too long last year. Half of his sacks should never have happened (i.e., not a break down in the oline). While he was good at not throwing INTs, he was unwilling to take many chances or throw the ball away. It was very frustrating. The South Carolina game was the worst example of this by far.

Last year LSU gave up 24 sacks.. Bama gave up 32

LSU attempted 61 fewer passes. The tigers averaged giving up one sack every 12.5 pass attempts with a MOBILE QB. Bama gave up one sack every 11.3 pass attempts with a statue at QB.

JJ had 450 yards rushing last year. We can look at stats the way you did, or we can look at them the way someone with a sound football IQ would.

Let's be fair.

LSU had a running qb and actually attempted fewer passes. JJ is more mobile AND more apt to run if his #1 target was not open.

I think the difference of 8 sacks is not applicable to determining OL play, in this case.

I do like your other about effective running with anemic passing.

I have no problem with Bama being ranked #1, but our line is too low at 10. We're two deep with people who could start for other teams at every position.

I never care about the actual rank itself. I care about the "spread" in quality.

For example, there may be a tiny difference between #1 and #10. Someone has to fill those slots. So long as it is not a large spread, then it matters not.

It is like ranking your favorite meals and having to "settle" for your 5th favorite....STILL a damned fine meal.

Or,if you are of the mind, it is like having a date with the 10th rated Super-model. Is it REALLY a big fall?

They definitely need to improve a lot from last year to this year if they want to sniff the top spot at all.

Your strength will be defense but take it from a Tiger fan who knows something about really good defenses and not so great qb play.... your defense will weaken by the 2nd half of the season.

Our mobile QB has always been known to hold onto the ball for way, way too long in the pocket as well

McIlwain did a great job with JPW and McElroy. Vandy was about the only school those 2 guys would have started for before he came.

I remember you guys being very critical of your OL last year on this board and I think it was warranted. It is for this reason that I am surprised with all these pre season rankings that have Bama with the best OL in the country. I see that most of you are taking a wait and see attitude on this ranking and I don't blame you. The OL that LSU had last year did a pretty damn good job considering we had no passing game at all and I don't think any QB put his OL in worst spots than JJ. I understand McElroy may have held on to the ball too long, but if the primary wasn't there JJ would do some kind of shimmy shake with his head down that looked like a drunk kid at a high school prom. I think both lines should be improved but I love where our line is at if everybody stays upright. Good luck to you boys.

How do they know this? If they do as well as expected, why wouldn't they contend for All America honors?
