Kind of like how McElroy falls short of your standards as to what is a successful college QB. All the guy has done is go 20-1 and deliver a national championship. He's currently rated in the top 10 in pass efficiency. I agree he has areas of his game that needs improvement. I agree he held onto the ball in the SC game when he should have thrown it. But to suggest he be benched for a redshirt freshman is plain crazy. I guess the standards for what is considered a giant program and a successful quarterback depend on who is doing the evaluating.

I have way lower standards for a college QB than I do for elite CFB programs. McElroy is so crappy that there is nothing I can do but shite on him.

Bama has definitely made McElroy. If he was elsewhere he would have not looked as nearly as good.

By your standards, Alabama wasn't a power from 93-2008. One conference title over 15 years, some ok years, a few pretty good ones, a 3-8 season tossed in for good measure. And it's so funny you used 9-4 as your bad season barometer, seeing as how that's our exact record the following year (2006) and it was a nightmare. Richt's worst season ever as a head coach. You also cite getting national recruits. I guess Matt Stafford (Texas) and Knowshon (New Jersey) thought highly enough of us to commit around that same time period.

Look, I'm not saying UGA is a top 5 national power or that we were a '95 Nebraska juggernaut. But from 2002-2005, we were arguably the best team in the SEC and one of the best most consistent in the country. Only LSU would make a better case in the SEC simply on the grounds that they won a national title (even though they had a loss, same as we did in 2002). We won more SEC titles over the same period however. To say UGA wasn't a giant during that time period just isn't accurate.

You're exactly right. They weren't a power. Way too much inconsistency with very few dominant years in between. Again, I consider a program to be a giant with how dominant they've been. Prestige and historical significance has nothing to do with it. Florida State was a giant in the '90s but they are a borderline top 20 program. Georgia is an all-time top 15 program but they haven't been a giant since the Herschel Walker years.

By your standards, the only "Giant" right this moment is Alabama? They seem to be the only team to fit your strict criteria.

No. Florida is still a giant. Oklahoma, Ohio State and Texas are giants. USC is a giant for the time being. Depending on what LSU does this year, I might put them back in the giant category. And that's pretty much it.
