Coach Hobbs is a very high class guy and still attends many Bama games as an NBA scout. X's/O's and post player development were his strong suits. He had some nice guards, but his teams often struggled from these positions. I also believe he wasn't prepared when McDyess left early. According to the story I heard, Antonio told coach he would be back for his Jr. season before realizing how highly coveted he was in the NBA. Hobbs scrambled to fill the roster and it started a string of JUCO guys that probably did not deserve an SEC scholarship.

Good thread. Most questions about Alabama basketball have one of three answers:

1. Wimp Sanderson.
2. Robert Horry.
3. He's gone after this year.

One of my all-time favs. Dude had arms like tree branches - soo long. Couldn't shoot worth a lick, but what a great defensive player.

I remember Rogers having some run of triple doubles his senior season where the only drama was whether he'd get the 10 points to go with his nightly 10 blocks / 10 rebounds.

Even though there was certainly an increasing dropoff in overall talent from Wimp Sandersons' teams, from memory, those Hobb's teams still seemed to have a couple of NBA draft picks every year. Some like Rogers and Eric Washington were probably more due to development than recruiting.
