Conference network, over $100M in athletic revenue, 100k+ football stadium, better recruiting in all sports (accept maybe women's basketball), new baseball stadium, and college Gameday on campus for football and basketball... All things that just wouldn't have happened in the Big 12. I'm glad we're gone!!!

Like 99.99% of Aggies. The concept that we regret the move is a Longhorn fairy tale.

Unlike the vocal minority on the Rant, most aggie fans are realists. For most schools, winning a National Title is a rare thing. Even playing in a national title game is a rare event. Texas only has 1 national title in my lifetime, and is 3rd all-time in wins. Michigan only has one national title in my lifetime, and is first all-time in wins. Rational aggies realize what they missed out on by moving to the SEC JFF's freshman year. Every aggie posting on this thread will go to their grave without seeing a national championship in football for Texas A&M.

No move to the SEC = Mike Sherman still head coach

Mike Sherman head coach = Jameill Showers starting QB (Sherman NEVER starts freshmen at QB) = Manziel transfers in offseason

I understand you keep telling yourself this because it eases the pain. It's wildly inaccurate, but I understand.

Please, outline how it's "wildly inaccurate".

Johnny Manziel was 3rd string after the 2012 Spring season. Showers was the starter and Joeckel was the backup. He worked over the summer and won the job during fall camp.

The burden of proof is on you to show where Mike Sherman has EVER started a freshman or a rookie quarterback aside from Ryan Tannehill, who he coached in college.

One of Sherman's major problems was that "tie goes to the upperclassman". Unless a player of a lower classification was significantly better than his competition, the upperclassman would start/play.

I watched Manziel scrimmage as a freshman. Sumlin turned him into a Heisman winner.

Your dad should have pulled out.

Which is why having that as the only worthwhile goal is pretty stupid unless you are Alabama.

Texas A&M went from a situation in the Big 12 where we were broke and had little national exposure (nationally we would get confused with Texas Tech) to a situation in the SEC where we top the revenue list and our brand is known nationally. I don't know an Aggie that would trade that for a hypothetical shot at a national title game.

How Sherman handled other players is irrelevant.

Sherman recruited Manziel and knew he was special. It's obvious he wanted to start him as a red-shirt freshman.

LINK

quote:

“It was a no-brainer,” said Sherman of Manziel’s recruitment. “You could see something special watching his high school tapes. Nobody does what he does in high school. Nobody’s done what he’s done in high school — 75 touchdowns in one season? “People questioned whether he was tall enough, but he played so big. You could write it off that it wasn’t at that high a level — but he’d take his team of 4A kids out of Tivy and beat 5A kids out of San Antonio. He was taking teams that weren’t big and weren’t fast and beating teams that were big and were fast.”

quote:

“Every Wednesday I’d have the younger guys — the guys who weren’t going to play in the game — scrimmage while the older guys would go ones-vs.-ones on another field,” said Sherman over the telephone last week. “I’d be with the ones and you’d hear all this yelling and screaming over on the other field. It was Johnny making plays. “Tom Rossley [then the Aggies’ quarterback coach] would come over to me and say, ‘He did it again.’ So it’s not a surprise that he’s having the success he’s having. In high school, he’d put the game on his shoulders — the same stuff he’s doing now.”

quote:

“There’s really nobody like him,” Sherman said. “He’s a combination of Doug Flutie and Cam Newton. His elusiveness, his strong arm … and he has big, big hands. Huge. The only other guy I’ve been around who had hands like his was Brett Favre.”

Winning a national title, while difficult, is the only worthwhile goal. Suggesting it isn't is the most aggie thing ever posted on the Rant - congratulations!

If it was "so obvious" he wanted to start him, why redshirt him?

Facts are facts: Johnny Manziel and Mike Evans were both redshirted by Sherman.

You're class of '98 and you're surprised that t-sips are self-righteous arrogant pricks?

The butthurt feelings are obvious. You don't need any t-sips to show you that (even if you are imagining that they are.)

No idea how you feel.

Seems most aggies who post here would rather have the move to the SEC than a shot at a 2012 National Football Championship. In real life, most aggies express the opposite sentiment.
