Agree or Disagree : Bama was a balanced Offense in 2011?

I found this on another board (not an Alabama board, most are full of Homers.)
The argument is that Bama's MEANINGFUL carries is what you should count for, and you should not count for plays where the QB dropped back with the intention to pass and then add it to the rushing total as Bama called a pass play.
The bold is the most important part.

So, that means Bama only had 378 meaningful rush attempts, whereas they had 386 meaningful snaps where they didn't intend on rushing.
Yep, Bama was a running team.

Bama has been a very balanced offense since the day Nick Saban stepped on campus IMO.

balanced, but run oriented as previously mentioned. When his teams have struggled is against teams built like his - great D and solid run oriented O. ALL OF THIS IS BIG 10 football - I know I will get killed for making that statement

It is when the run leaves where they got in trouble in Saban's career - no matter where he coached. He relies on his D to set-up short fields so his teams can score in whatever way possible - JUST SCORE. He thrives in low scoring games and likes to try to open the game up if possible by wearing out the other teams O with his tenacious D.
That is why a good punting team that is balanced will always play his teams tough. He can't win all of the games he coaches, but knows enough that DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS! He leared that under that a-hole in New England.
The only time in his career he was a pass first coach was when he had Davey at LSU. He was still trying to establish a defensive identity.

The only flaw a Saban offense has is that he coasts after getting a lead and it sometimes costs the team. It almost cost him against Texas and did against Auburn in 2010.

There are a lot of screens and quick dumps offs to the TE mixed into those passes but they still count so I guess I will agree. I can't remember Jimbo ever having this good of an offense and I know Applewhite sucked so I'm really hoping that some of the success Bama has had on offense the last few years is due to McElwain being one hell of an OC.

I would say they were in the National Championship game for sure. That was as balanced as I have seen Bama all year. Not to mention that AJ had the best game he has had since being the starting QB. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to someone when they are on and he was on!

We would've been more balanced over all, but on the season Alabama only attempted 17 passes in the 4th quarter all season mostly due to having every game except one pretty much squared away going into the 4th quarter.

Never thought I would say this, but I agree with Rickdaddy. Saban puts it in neutral too early at times IMO.

True. GMAC and Jones were on fire in the 2010 Iron Bowl, had he let them keep doing work we would've built a bigger lead. Besides, the winner of the IB should ALWAYS try to run up the score. It isn't meant to be a friendly game.

I was at the 2010 Iron Bowl and even when we went up 24-0 I wasn't really excited. Why? Because we couldn't run the ball for shite. Sure...we were passing all over them, but so had everyone else. We may have had better talent on the field than Auburn did that day but that doesn't mean squat if you can't run the ball. I know you will all claim I say this in hindsight but I predicted at halftime that, if we couldn't run the ball on Auburn in the second half, they were going to come back and win.

I just wish Ingram didn't lose that damn fumble. He normally never fumbles, but damn. Either way, 42-14 was enough to right the wrong.

I'd say a balanced, but much more run oriented. I wonder how many of those passes were off of the play action though(honestly don't remember). I feel like McCarron would have had a much easier throw with threats like Richardson and Lacy in the backfield.

Honestly for most of the season, McCarron couldn't sell a PA fake to save his life.
