Yep, Chavis held Alabama to 5/17 3rd down conversions in last years game... ...through the first 58 minutes. Alabama went 3/3 on 3rd down the last 2 minutes and OT. In 2012 Chavis held Alabama to 1/9 on 3rd down... ...through 58 minutes. The last two minutes Alabama had 4 consecutive 1st downs and converted 2nd down for a TD.

LSU was 9/22 last year and 10/20 in 2012.

Only an Aggie would pull an article from the FURMAN game

I don't know. I didn't make it. Obviously, there are lots of variables involved. However, it's realistic to expect improvement overall, and in this area (granted, improving is really the only direction our defense can go).

LSU reveille
You know it's bad when it has the word "reveille" in it.
@ Realistic Ag
I never once disputed that
The whole thread is about the "attacking style" buzzword that gets tossed around when mentioning Chavis.

Especially with the return of Hilliard and a fully healthy Hall

Not bad. But if your defense is holding Bama to 1/9 on 3rd down through 58 minutes, then you should have a lead that's large enough to win the game.
That's probably how Chavis feels about it...

No doubt he's an improvement for A&M.
I doubt Steele stays at LSU long, they're probably grooming Ogre for the job. I suspect they didn't give it to him right off due to the fact that he's never held the position before.

I have no doubt LSU would have won both of those games if thay had held a lead of, say, 59 points with 2 minutes to go.
But how many times in Alabama's history do you think they've trailed by 59 points with 2 minutes to go in a game?
I'd venture to say "0".

I'll let you know in about 5 months my opinion on the buzzword (I know, I know...you're on the edge of your seat). However, "effective" is the only word I care about at the end of the day. The journey to get there doesn't really matter to me.

No one anyone actually believes this. He's been a position coach for 27 years. If he's not ready now then 1 year under Steele, a mostly failed DC, is not going to make a difference.

Remind the class how the Aggy offense did against Bama last year?

Yeah, just dismiss yourself from the discussion.

ON sIrius xm they just stated oregeron is going to get hired up from LSU after this year as a D coordinator at a big time program.

He's been AT LEAST a position coach for 27 years. Him being a HC further makes my point, you realize that right?

I'm going to also point out that in 2012 A&M had a 5 point lead on Alabama with 2 minutes to go. The aggies proceeded to hold Alabama to 3 yards on 3rd and goal at the aggie 5, and then intercepted the ball on 4th down.
That was without John Chavis as DC of the fighting aggies.
