Lot of great programs at various SEC schools.
My Alabama accounting degree gave me opportunities to do whatever I wanted to try in the accounting world, wherever I wanted to do it, from small town firm to Big 4 in Manhattan. That was because of the school reputation, not because I was special (I wasn't, at all). That, to me, defines a school more than any rankings (and the accounting program is Top 10 nationally in those too).

Well that's one subjective list. Here's a list (with no rankings) by the Carnegie Research Institute:
So d you think all 100+(?) schools are equal within R1?
We see LSU. But we also see Texas Tech, North Texas, Florida International University, Ole Miss, and other not overly impressive universities.

There is nobody more lame than the kid who goes to a pretty good state school melting over every perceived slight. We get it. Texas A&M is a really pretty good school. Maybe it's not Michigan, UVA, or Texas, but it's pretty good.

Only Top 5 research institution between the east and west coasts.
Deal. With. It.
Deal. With. It.

I bring up a flaw your silly argument and you pull the "melting" & dick ride someone else card.

Research dollars are spent in those areas, but the AAU doesn't consider grant money from the USDA, and while engineering plays a big role the overwhelming drivers of AAU status basically 3 things:
1. Research Doctorates - the number of grad students conducting research.
2. Medical school (which Auburn is getting correct?) -
3. Federal dept/agency Research - a majority of which is medical science based (NIH, CDC, DHHS).
Correct. To the AAU... all research is not created equally. Money that is just flung out by the government is viewed dimly in their eyes - and for land grant institutions who get a lot of USDA money, that's not quality research.
Medical research dollars doled out by the NIH *is* highly regarded. Alabama would be in the same shape as Nebraska - our medical school is not considered as part of the main campus. It would be interesting to revisit in a few years for Auburn because their new medical school is going to be Osteopathic, and I suspect that the research dollars are not going to be headed that way early on.

All 3 of them place basically any kid with a social pulse and a 3.25+ GPA in position to get Big 4 level jobs if that is what they want.
Auburn's grad program is almost entirely based around passing the CPA exam, though. Alabama's is not.

I have said ad nausium on the Rant that Alabama, Auburn, and LSU are continually and consistently UNDERRATED academically to criminal levels.
But, keep paintin' with a broad-arse nutria corndog brush.

This is not a "Dick-Measuring Contest" as I have stated before.
I asked for a humble opinion in my original post, and was thankful to get many, many quality posts as a response.
