It doesn't surprise me that the pool shrinks dramatically, because in modern college football the end of your schedule is typically much harder than the beginning.

You have your rivalry games, your conference championship game, and bowl game (now 2 of them in the CFP).

Like this year for Alabama, our 3 hardest opponents of the year by far would be potentially the last 3 (UGA, two playoff teams).
