Does Iowa State really recruit enough elite horses to get there? Seems like a super long shot.

But they have everyone coming back. (From a team that lost to La Monroe or some shite.)

They have one of the best backfields in the country and they play in the big 12

If they can beat Oklahoma and Iowa they should win every other game

With that said they did lose to ULL last year

ISU has one of the best coaches in CFB. And virtually the entire team returns. But most importantly their schedule is pretty easy

It's never happened. It would be like lightning in a bottle. Miss State in 2014 caught that lightning during the regular season, making it to number 1 by the playoff committee, but couldn't get through Tuscaloosa.

Cincy last season was the newest version of UCF, which was the newest version of Boise State. G-5s who have caught lightning for a brief moment. How do these guys get in without an expanded playoff? Again, it's never happened.

Yes, but when you play one good team a season the odds are better. Same goes for UNC - only really have to beat Clemson

Iowa State would likely have to beat Oklahoma twice. That is part of the problem with the current system. A few teams get mulligans, most don’t.

In fairness, a one-loss Iowa State doesn't carry the SOS or national clout of a one-loss SEC team being left out. A lot of teams would have to lose a lot of games for the stars to align for the Cyclones and one loss.

I agree with the lol but they do okay Notre Dame ... If they run table and Notre Dame finishes top 10 guess anything is possible ... Still I would have put many teams over them ...

I think Iowa State makes it if they go 12-1 and win the Big 12. I think that is probably true for any team in any of the P5 conferences, unless all 5 champs end up undefeated or with only 1 loss. Whether that should happen or not is a different question..

Iowa State would have 6 games against teams currently ranked in the Top 30.. obviously a lot can change depending on how all of those teams do..

But while looking at the Iowa State schedule, I noticed A&M only has 4, maybe 5 games against teams currently in the top 30. So which is A&M’s best chance IF they don’t win the SEC.. Clearly the SEC champ would be in..

Going 12-0 and losing in the SECCG

or

Going 11-1 and not playing in the SECCG
(losing to the Elephants)

Clearly it matters what the other conferences do.. but has a conference championship loser ever made the playoffs?

I realize you would never want your team to lose, but you could make the argument that their best chance is going 11-1 instead of 12-1.. which is messed up, but maybe true.

I also thought cincy was a pretender last year then they gave Georgia all they could handle in the bowl game.

No one that plays in the worst P5 conference can have one of the toughest schedules in the country. It's an oxymoron

The Big 12 isn't the worst P5 conference right now, that's the Pac 12 then the ACC, but you know facts, they come at you fast. And I don't make the SOS data, but Iowa State is in the #6 toughest schedule. Arkansas is #1

Edit: Missouri is 46th...behind every single Big 12 team

It's not that I think they are "pretenders." They simply don't have the SOS pop in their schedule. Why should even a good Cincy team get to the playoff 4 with a G-5 schedule?

I've gone on record numerous times that Ohio State did not have the SOS with their 5 game schedule to be in the playoff.
