and I've been set many times like that...but probably call a two mark hand anyway. its always fun to try and walk the roach. plus it can often force the opponents on deciding to give up their precious 5-5

I may bid 1 mark just to put myself in the lead, but I never go 2 with a "hope my partner catches this" domino.

When going for 2 marks, they shouldn't favor the 5-5 anymore than any other double siince they only need one trick to set you. I usually chunk off a double and try to keep the next highest, such as the 5-4 if you called 6s trumps. This way I can cover some of the 4s too.
Unless the other team needs one more set to win and my team is way behind.

it happens.. replace the roach with something else like a maybe a 4-1 and it works. most of the time. I play for fun anyway and go 2 marks without having a lay down hand all the time.
