Maybe it would have been a good game between Florida State and Auburn, but Florida State had the better resume BY FAR.

Agreed. For Auburn to have had a legit claim that year they would have needed to beat Florida for a 2nd time and then won a bowl game against a highly ranked opponent. In that scenario they would have been champions.

The games against Oregon State (7-5), UCLA (6-6) and Stanford (4-7) say otherwise.

Pete Carroll's USC teams always played up for the big games while continuously neglecting the smaller fish. Whenever they lost it was to a team they had no business losing to.

Doesn't sound much like a championship caliber team or coach IMO.

I watched the Nebraska FSU Orange Bowl and Nebraska clearly got job bed in that game. The officiating in that game was along the lines of the 2002 Miami OSU Fiesta Bowl or last year's national championship game.

I think that hurt Auburn. When the media saw how close Nebraska came to winning despite the officiating it made them the sympathetic team instead of Auburn.

What really hurt Auburn was not being able to face UF again and having a legitimate SEC crown.

Should OU be like Georgia and never contend or compete for national championships?
