Melvin Watkins curse...now 28 games and counting

0 for his last 19 conference games at A&M
0 for 8 vs. A&M while at Missouri
0 for 1 vs. A&M while at Arkansas
However, I have to admit that I thought that Billy Kennedy's coaching was shitty enough to overcome even the Watkins curse. After all, Kennedy is now 1-2 for his career against Watkins.
Boy was I WRONG.

CGSC was right all along. While the hogs have been road garbage for many many years now, I don't know if I've seen them lose in such a humiliating fashion.
The curse lives on.

You have to understand the reason for the curse.
After Watkins went 0-16 in the Big 12 and lost in the first round of the conference tournament, he resigned, stating that "It's not possible for ANY coach, no matter how much talent he has, to win here".
When Gillispie won 21 games his first season at A&M, he then changed his tune, claiming that he would have had the same results if he had been given more time.
Then he attempted to flip a few of our key players with the mindset of "nothing going on down there at A&M". We proceeded to make the tournament for the first time in 20 years that year.
As an assistant under Quinn Snyder at Missouri, Watkins went 0-2 against A&M, blown out in year 1 at Reed and Missouri completely fell apart in year 2 in Columbia.
As an assistant under Anderson, he went 0-6 against A&M at Missouri, including the 2009 game in which Missouri was a top ten team (Elite Eight that year) and got run out of the building in the first half, the 2010 game in which A&M snapped Missouri's 33-game home winning streak, blowing an 11-point lead with 8 minutes left in the process, the 2011 regular season game in which Missouri lost by 2 in overtime and shot .420 from the FT line, and the 2011 Big 12 Tournament.
Almost every game in which Watkins is involved against A&M, the one constant is that his team completely falls apart in at least one critical aspect of its gameplan...usually FT shooting and rebounding.

We didn't believe in it...until after the 2009 game in which we had no business being in the same arena as that Missouri team, but were up 30 at halftime.

So do y'all know of any chants, spells, or sacraficies that can break the curse?
Does merlin require virgins blood? Cause I only know skanks.

I think all Melvin has to do is admit that he failed as a coach at A&M, which he never did when he resigned. IIRC, he blamed A&M for his failure.

I think we need to ritualistically shave Merlin's Merkin, that is the only solution!

Watkins Bio (Arkansas)
Interesting how they give him credit for "rebuilding the A&M program" and for Acie Law and Antoine Wright and fail to mention the 7-24 (0-17) final year as the Aggies coach.

All it will really take is for Watkins to stop claiming that he "rebuilt A&M basketball", stop taking credit for putting Antione Wright and Acie Law in the NBA, and acknowledge how horribly he failed as a coach.
He basically gave himself credit for what Gillispie did.
