I know that (the late) Reggie White was an outspoken follower of Jesus and IMO the greatest DL to ever play the game.

Was he ever known for trash-talking? I don't recall that he was but just asking those more familiar with him.

He was lazy as frick at Tennessee. Most overrated college player OAT imo.

He was not known as a choir boy while he was at Tennessee though to answer your question. Don't know specifics on the field.

From wikipedia

quote:

White played college football at Tennessee from 1980 to 1983, where he set school records for most sacks in a career, season and game. He still holds these records. While playing for the Volunteers, White was named an All-American. He was the SEC Player of the Year in his Senior season of 1983.

He finished his college career with 32 Sacks and 51 TFL

Just imagine what he could have done had he applied himself!

I'm not joking or exaggerating when I say he was worthless 3 of his 4 years here. His senior year he showed what he could do, that just made those first three years that much more frustrating.

The Tennessee fans that talk shite about Reggie white being lazy are truly miserable people.

Hall of Fame player, just STFU.

Exactly.

I'm sure volfan30 can give us more specifics of how "frustrating" Reggie was to watch when he was swimming around in his dad's nutsack.

volfan30, honestly dude I've read most of your posts regarding the UT and quite frankly I can say to you from all Vol fans "eat a d*ck". You are not one of us and we dont recognize you as a fan. Just because your different doesn't mean you should be bitter...

White was obviously a tremendous NFL player, an all time great. Outside of his senior season, he made very little impact at Tennessee despite his immense talent. Revisionist history has turned him into some kind of force at the college level.

Because I inferred Reggie White's college career was not as great as it should have been, you post this

Good to see you at least have some perspective.

ETA: Honestly, I can see how I'm coming off as a dick in this thread, Reggie White's college career is just something that kind of touches a nerve for me.

I like Reggie White, and I'm proud to say he's a Vol. That said, you're right about his college career, and it's really not debatable, either.

Can other Vol fans weigh in on the question in the OP?

The reason I ask is that some sports fan today treat trash-talk (aka "swag") as a virtue. I don't. In fact, I think the greatest players just let their performance do the talkin' and would prefer that their talk not distract from their walk. JMHO.

White said he has thought about why God created different races. Each race has certain gifts, he said.

Blacks are gifted at worship and celebration, White said.

"If you go to a black church, you see people jumping up and down because they really get into it," he said.

Whites are good at organization, White said.

"You guys do a good job of building businesses and things of that nature, and you know how to tap into money," he said.

"Hispanics were gifted in family structure, and you can see a Hispanic person, and they can put 20, 30 people in one home."

THE JAPANESE AND other Asians are inventive, and "can turn a television into a watch," White said. Indians are gifted in spirituality, he said.

I highly doubt Reggie talked much trash and I don't see the need for us to critique his college career. He was one of the best to ever come through UT. There shouldn't be any debate on that.

Reggie White was the same age as I was. We graduated high school the same year. He and Charles Morgan led Chattanooga Howard to the runner-up finish in the State Title in "BASKETBALL". White was recruited by Don DeVoe as an AA power forward back in 1980 but he chose football. As far as Reggie being "LAZY". Reggie played a lot his first three years but had lots of nagging injuries. As far as "TRASH TALKING". Opposing offensive linemen used to say "IF REGGIE HAD A MEAN STREAK HE WOULD HAVE BEEN OUTLAWED". Reggie would throw a lineman out of the way with one hand and sack the quarterback, then help then up tell them "JESUS LOVES YOU..KEEP TRYING". So, Reggie White wasn't a trash talker and he wasn't lazy.

Thanks. That's kind of what I expected. It's a shame that so many players resort to trash-talkin' instead of just letting their play do the talking. Reggie did.
