yea 463 is decently pricy for me so I have only been like twice but mugshots is fantastic.

The 463 is solid. Never had a bad meal there nor Walkers. As for the price, I have no problem paying for a good meal because I having a standing rule that if it's my choice, I want to go somewhere that cooks better than me (at one point I was accepted & nearly went to the CIA up in Ithaca NY).
When it's just me and the Missus, 463 tends to be an easy "go to" due to proximity. When we got the boys, Roosters, Sal & Mookies or Mugshots it is. Can't take them to "fine dining" now that I have broken the seal/taught them about "prime", "bone-in" and "dry aged". Did it once in Chicago and that bill was painful!

Does roosters still have food?
Posted on 2/11/15 at 11:36 am to Rebelgator
They have one down in The Fondren, which is close to most of my "work".

Well considering how I am in sales....you could say that metaphorically

ah yea i understand. I go to to jackson every now and then to with friends and what not and Jackson has some excellent food. I had a friend who worked at Broadstreet baking company and I used to love it there until he told me about his work ethic…..
Madison has a lot of good food such as sombra, Majestic burger, Millie D's but Jackson seems more locally owned in my opinion. I love going out to eat in Jackson

If you ever have time, ride out to Flora from Madison (10 min) and eat at the original Blue Rooster. Awesome burger..

Man I forgot about Majestic Burger, deem nachos are so dayum good.
Hardy is right about the original Blue Rooster. Place is out of the way & small but never been there when I didn't have to wait on a table. Freaking burger buns are perfect.
The new Livingston Mercantile (corner of 463 & 22) is supposed to be really good but I haven't been around enough over the past month to try it yet.

well then when I head back to Jackson I will have to check it out. jackson has this place called the feathered cow that i think opened up in 2014 and its good. Same with this BBQ place called the pig an pint. I did a trivia night there on a monday over christmas break

Unfortunately IMO there really isn't a bunch of good BBQ joints in the Jackson area. Where is the Feathered Cow? Pig & pint is solid. My go to BBQ is Tay's though since I was a fan when I lived on the coast. They have the same sauce, the smoked wings are nearly as good as mine and their Pig Salad with the extra Hot BBQ sauce is my go to when I am cutting carbs out of the diet.

Every mugshots burger I've ever had has been overcooked and dry... The topping game and uniqueness is on point, but the actual burger is ultimately why you're there and every time for me, has been subpar

I'll have to admit I have only been to the Mugshots down here a handful of times. When I lived in Missouri I hit them often in Columbia and Springfield.
If your looking for a real kick arse burger go to Luke in N'awlins! Besh is the best. It is one of those burgers you don't have to add any condiments to. The caramelized onions and Edam cheese on it is a fantastic combo. Only thing close to it around Jackson is the Kobe at 463.

The Feathered Cow is over by Picadilly off of I-55 and that cigar shop. I believe it is owned by the same people who own roosters but the feathered cow is a weird little restaurant.
I used to love going to Nicks as my sunday brunch when I was in town for a weekend but a few months ago I went and they had closed down. Can someone tell me what happened cause Nicks was one of my favorites.
Also, what the hell happened to Brents? I went there for lunch over winter break and it was expensive and stuff. I liked my 8$ brents burger that made me feel like i was in the help. It frustrated me

I think Nicks was just mismanaged. The move to get closer to the Fondren was the right idea but the wrong location. Plus, it was in close proximity & thus in direct competition with Walker's and Babalou's and they did not adjust the menu or atmosphere accordingly. I think he still has Mermaids though.
Brent's, like the rest of Fondren, just got trendy and prices went up. Still has a very loyal following though.

This. All those milsaps kids and even a few of the Belhaven ones. Sneaky beans and cups and just Fondren is either Hipster or Family territory.
I think Dueling has some of the best small name concerts I've seen and am quite surprised that a lot of them are not as packed considering the jackson youth love small indie bands
