I agree with the article. Dismissing him outright after he signed might scare the parents of some recruits who may have some hiccups. Get him on campus, give him a short leash, and let him compete.
If he screws up one time at Ole Miss (on top of his non-Ole Miss screw-ups), he's gone. If he makes nice, then he stays and possibly flourishes.
That would send a better message to recruits' parents: Freeze can not only bring in the good eggs, his mojo is so powerful he can take the bad eggs and turn them.

How would getting rid of a guy who was getting a 2nd chance and blew it four days after signing something a future recruit parent would look at and have issue with?
Frick them and their kid if that was the case. The guy was getting his 2nd chance and while not even under the influence blew it four days later... I hope Kelly had one and only one visit to Oxford.
