This season is unique from the last few, at least going in. For the first time since the bat change, we are more defense oriented. Our staff looks experienced and deep but we have to replace Yarbs and Snider's bats in the order, which is going to be tough. The plan is that we don't have to have as much offense if our pitching is a good as we think it will be.

Here is my projected Depth Chart:

Fri: Bobby Wahl - Jr.
Sat: Mike Mayers - Jr.
Sun: Chris Ellis - So. / Sam Smith - So.

C: Will Allen - Jr. / Auston Knight - So.
1B: Sikes Orvis - So. / Will Allen - Jr.
2B: Jake Overbey - So. / ???
SS: Austin Anderson - Jr. / Jake Overbey
3B: Andrew Mistone - Sr. / Preston Overbey - Jr.
LF: Tanner Mathis - Sr. / Will Jamison - So.
CF: Auston Bousfield - So. / Will Jamison - So.
RF: Will Jamison - So. /Preston Overbey -Jr. / Senquez Golson - So. ]
DH: John Gatlin - Sr. / Sikes Orvis - So. / Preston Overbey - Jr.

Closer: Brett Huber - Sr.
Pen: Hawtin Buchanon - So.
Pen: Aaron Greenwood - Jr.
Pen: Tanner Bailey - Sr.

Tues: Josh Laxer - So.
Wed: Sam Smith/ Chris Ellis

The main battles for spots are 2nd base and RF. After last year it seems Bianco wants Jake Overbey to win the spot at 2nd but I think some new guys will push him. Also RF is wide open. He likes to platoon that spot so I can see Preston Overbey and Will Jamison palying the L/R matchup but I wouldn't be suprised if Senquez is pushing for time when he gets some practice time in. The Sunday starter role was a thorn in our side last year. Let's home Ellis or Smith pitches well in that role early and wins the job.

As a whole, our staff is strong. Buchanon, Greenwood, and Bailey would be great in the closer role if Huber didn't have so much experience. But to have 4 guys out of the pen with shut down stuff is great for us.

My projected opening day batting order:

Mathis - LF
Jamison - RF
Bousfield - CF
Orvis - 1B
Allen - C
Anderson - SS
Gatlin - DH
Mistone - 3B
Overbey - 2B

We have to keep our rotation fresh. Bianco over throws our guys a lot.

I agree... Bianco always waits 1-2 innings too long before replacing a pitcher.

I'm not giving up on basketball. Still have plenty of games left.

Baseball won't be great, but they will be decent I feel. Good pitching will keep Ole Miss alive throughout the season. Offense could surprise us though.

My brother is a pitcher. Being looked at by a few pro teams right now. I agree with him when he says you have to let a pitcher try and work out of his problems. Can't pull them at the first sign of trouble. That messes with their heads more than anything.

I agree. Especially with us last year, we seemed pretty thin in the pen. Bianco would pick one bull pen guy for a week and a half, then 1 bad outing and he woudld go to someone else. If he lets the starters go until they are tired and or effective then go to the pen we should be fine. Going into our pen early on Friday is a killer.

I agree, pitchers should be allowed to worj their way out of a jam.

I was talking more about when one of our starters would be clearly tired by the 6th and have lost a lot of velocity, but Bianco wouldn't pull him until the 8th.

yea last year was unique though. Literally, our plan for Sunday was run people out there for 2 innings at a time and try to piece a game together. He tried to protect the pen for Sunday and it didn't always work. That's why I think it is important for us to find a Sunday guy before SEC play so it's not a guessing game on Sat night what we are doing on Sunday.

Yeah I would love for Ellis to step up and be that big starter we need on sunday. Wahl and Meyers are both great pitchers, if one guy steps up for us on sunday, we will have a great bullpin.

Hopefully our offense finds it's b ats early in the season too.

Should be a good season for us though, we should make the ncaa tourny again this season .

Im just ready to get rowdy in right field.

Bousfield is Yarbs jr. Go look at Yarbs stats from his fr year and look at Bousfields from last year. Orvis should bring some of the power that Snider had. We need guys like Preston Overbey and Austin Anderson to have big years for us to make a run.

I work on the grounds crew so I'm never up there. shite is hilarious though. Just don't throw full Bud Lites into the visitors bullpen, use nattys.

Bousfield having a big year would be huge for us.

We seem to have a managable scheduel this season. TCU will be good, if we can get out of opening week at home with 2 wins, it sill be a great start to the season. FIU on the road wont be a bad OOC test either.

SEC play, like always, is where it gets trickey:
@Arkansas
@Florida
@LSU

We have some great home series this season though

Think about it. How many times did we score 5+ runs with Snyder and yarbrough. Very few. Losing them isn't gonna hurt. remember bianco is our coach and waom

Yarbs and Snider probably had 2/3 of our RBI. That's tough to replace.

We have never hit. plain and simple. if bianco can't replace our underachieving performance at the plate(3 or 4 runs a game) then i dont know what to say about him.

Yarbs was clutch, and will be hard to replace!
