I don't see the problem. We've known this for quite some time. It will be fine, and we can add those suites next. Some people just can help but bitch about something all the time.
This. I'm excited to see the side of campus along All-American Drive get "cleaned up" a bit.
I think people will be pleasantly surprised except for the perpetual bitchers. There are several on this board.

We are getting new lights without current expansion
Bjork has already said that the next step is the tearing down the press box and replacing it with a deck

Some guys will be happy with anything. This renovation looks like Allen, HS.
Some people are just more realistic and knowledgable than others.
You will be impressed by what they do and you'll notice the huge improvement it makes to the first thing people see when they head to the stadium from the grove. Aside from not liking us half assing this, do you understand you have to grow your fanbase? The only way you can do that is allow more people to come to games. This is the most affordable way to add seats and it is in the area we need the most improvement. It's also done in a way that we can match the NEZ in the future when we can actually afford it and actually fill it up regularly.
But you'd rather us wait for that day and do it all at once while we continue to have a smaller and worse stadium than even MSU. I know people are different but surely you are just arguing out of pride now.

I've always been in favor of not having a huge stadium. We don't need a 80k stadium. No need for the condescending sarcastic remarks when someone doesn't agree with your stance. I live in Allen, TX. What we are essentially getting is no different than what a HS has. Why do a half arse job just to brag about having a few more seats than MSU? Just so it looks better walking to the stadium? Really?
I'll let it go. We obviously disagree. As I've stated in nearly every post, I'm sure it will be ok. What I hate is that we STILL will have one of the worse stadiums in the SEC even after this half arse renovation.

I also think that the stadium renovation is half-assed. Could they really not make the top line up with the sideline stands? Why leave it about 7 rows shorter? The rest of the stadium is concrete and this is steel. The West side needs a MAJOR renovation too. The truth is that 90% of the focus was the Pavilion and VHS was an afterthought. Sure, it will look better but that is a large damn load of money for what we are getting. I'm excited but it will be meh at best.

Good lord. Maybe you should just read message boards if you don't know why we are building it 3/4 of the way up. I mean I know I am way too deep into this stuff and OM is my vice but gracious. We are 6 months from completion and while you post on a message board you don't know anything about something as exciting as a stadium expansion? But yeah, yalls two opinions linking up makes sense. And yeah I know I am being an arse but I'm sick of reading stupid shite. I don't mind differences in opinion but actually know what you are talking about before blasting your opinion.

First of all we aren't renovating anything but the NEZ and the SEZ lower club. It's less of a renovation and more of an addition. A full west side renovation probably won't come until we tear down the press box and replace it with something else. Anything else would be shortsighted.
Second of all, we can't go higher that 3/4 because there are important buildings in the way which would be dumb to demolish. If we were to use concrete in this first phase of the NEZ, then it would likely by lower than 3/4 because of space limitations.
You are absolutely right about 90% of the focus was on the Pavilion because that was the fundraising campaign for. When we launch a campaign for the stadium, 90% of the money contributed after will be used for the stadium. 10% of a 200 mil campaign isn't shabby

Yeah it will eventually get suites. And Starnes and the FedEx building are important. And the right architect can design the expansion to incorporate the two building in the expansion. It will take work and people need to be patient with it. I really don't think these pictures are doing it justice, which is why some people aren't too crazy about it.
Posted on 2/26/16 at 10:05 pm to RebelFreeze48
Agreed, I hope they incorporate the two buildings. I think it would make for a really unique look if they somehow combined the Boone regime's renderings with the historic Starnes and the FedEx building.
Posted on 2/26/16 at 11:19 pm to Dorsal-Fin
I know about the Starnes Center. They could still make the tops even. Like I said, I am happy about the expansion. It needed to happen, however, it is the only thing on the plans and we have to keep moving forward. Our stadium has a long way to go. It was neglected for so long. I would have love to have seen a west side reno along with the end zone expansion. As far as quality, it is an erector set end zone. I'm sure we will all be happy but they need more on the list of things to do.

Let me get this straight, its stupid because we don't agree with you. I don't give a damn what the reasoning is for not making it symmetrical, it looks tacky as shite. Why are you all bent out of shape about it?
Coincidence that me and Landmass share the same opinion? What does that mean? You act like there is some big secret to the expansion.

Dude... the fact you would say that when I already have said this...

Is why I am telling you to shut up. You just said it here, " I don't give a damn what the reasoning is for not making it symmetrical,". The fact that you give your opinion without knowing why the decision was made is why I am "bent out of shape". The fact you don't care to know why they decided to go this route is why I am telling you to stop.
You are just bitching to bitch. You could argue my points instead of just saying, "i don't want it because it's tacky". Do you know how many schools have 3/4 bowls? Do you know that our SEZ is now a 3/4 bowl? Of course not, you don't care to inform yourself you just like to boast your misinformed opinion and then when people who are more knowledgeable than you explain to you why those decisions are made you have this all or nothing but approach. And I linked you and landmass together because he didn't know why it was only 3/4 of the way up and we 6 months out from completion. And no landmass you can't build it all the way up without tearing down the Starnes and more importantly the FedEx building. Y'all both having the same opinion without understand why the decision was made and not caring to know is why y'all share the same opinion. And guess what... I shared your opinion too.. You know.. Until I actually learned why the decisions were made.

I think bowling it in alone will change the atmosphere in that stadium drastically. The sound will be bouncing off the steel and concrete, and that alone provides our team with more of an advantage. I am eager to get the cluster that is the West side taken care of and get some more uniformity in the future. Bjork knows what he's doing though and I'm eager to be in VHS this fall

Many teams are going to the "erector set" design for expansions as it's cheaper and faster to build.

Arkansas has a WONDERFUL basketball arena that seats like 20 thousand....and when 8 thousand shows up it looks bush league.
I don't want this.... I want a tight fan base...I want a stadium that is super nice that the ticket is hard to get. Lets not over build because we think we are small. We are not small.... but we don't have to have a 80,000 seats.... we just need to be very very nice. We have SOOOOO much to sell.... Make Vaught the place to be..... and building something too big will not make that happen. Let Arkansas have their huge basketball arena they rarely ever fill up...Let Tennessee and LSU run themselves in major debt to where the Louisiana government is actually threatening to SHUT THEM DOWN. We need to be smart....we can build something very very special... we just need to be smart and not let folks push us into doing something that could compromise our position. Building in stages.....is smart. Don't overbuild.... Clearly what they are building in North endzone is stage 1. Building it up higher LIMITS what you do later. Come on guys. As far as structure...IT is SMART to build the structure that is more FUNCTIONAL, FASTER and CHEAPER that accomplish what you need to do. Guess what? IF you need to make changes it becomes MUCH easier to do.
Most of what I have seen from the Pavilion to other projects all over campus has been done on a first class level. I see nothing different here.

I'm the one with the all or nothing approach? You've been clowning anyone who doesn't agree with you as being stupid and lacking knowledge. I said I didn't care why the decision was made. I didn't say I didn't know. It had already been mentioned. Any rationale human visiting our stadium when this is done is going to wonder why didn't they extend to connect the west and east sides. It looks cheap. It also looks cheap keeping that old stand and placing a new video board in it. It also looks cheap with brick columns on one side of the new expansion and none on the other. Its like designing a house with columns on one side and nothing on the side next to it.
But hey, I lack knowledge and shouldn't express my opinion, if it isn't kissing Bjork arse and his flawed decisions.
