Ole Miss has done a great job in this one, just a month ago, everything I was hearing from Shea and his support circle was USC was the team to beat. His QB coach, who lives out here in Southern CA even told me there was some talk that Shea could transfer out to SoCal to play his senior year.

That all changed after he attended the Ole Miss Jr Day a few weeks ago and for me, this commitment would be huge on so many levels.

He posted this on the Ole Miss page:

quote:

"As most of you saw, Patterson just tweeted out he'll make his college choice next Tuesday at his school, 12:00 (Central Time). Just talked to Shea and he said final 3 are LSU, Ole Miss and USC and he'll announce at a school assembly with his teammates.

Everything I'm hearing is all Ole Miss. In fact, the original plan for Shea was to announce last Friday right after Signing Day but the family decided to hold off and give it more time.

I've seen Shea a ton over the last 2 years since he comes out to Socal frequently to train. For me, he's the best pure QB I've seen in the last 5 years. His combination of arm strength, accuracy, touch, release, pocket mobility and overall feel for the position are all plus tools for him. Throw in his fooball IQ and work ethic off the field and I think his upside is off the charts."

But he posted this on USC's page the day before:

quote:

"I held off on posting this Tuesday and Wednesday (when I first heard the news) because I didn't want to be a Debby Downer amid all the great news coming in. In hindsight, it's a good thing I didn't because things have changed since then.

So on Tuesday, I was told by someone VERY close to Shea's recruitment that he had decided on a college and would be announcing as soon as this weekend...to Ole Miss. I was stunned to say the least since up to this point, USC wasn't just leading but an overwhelming leader. I asked what happened and without going in to too many details, the response was basically, 'things are done a little differently in the South.'

This morning, same source told me Shea is not ready to commit now and USC is right back in it. I don't know if it had anything to do with the huge day USC had yesterday but was told, 'Shea will be allowed to do what he wants to do and what's best for him and not anyone else.' I know Shea LOVES USC and from talking to him, I know that's where his heart is at. We'll see what happens but this just shows how fast things can change in recruiting."

Seems like he would have better information if this were the case.

Shreveport, La., quarterback Shea Patterson fired off one of the biggest shots of the new recruiting cycle Thursday night when he tweeted he would be announcing his college decision next Tuesday.
Patterson, a 247Sports Composite 5-star, will announce his college choice at noon Tuesday in a press conference at his Calvary Baptist High School in Shreveport.
It is widely speculated that his older brother, Sean Patterson Jr., is about to leave his current position on the LSU staff and accept a job under Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss. Published reports that Sean Patterson Jr. had vacated his post as a staffer at LSU for Ole Miss began circulating a week ago, though Ole Miss has made no announcement of Sean Patterson's hiring as of this writing.
Shea Patterson is expected to announce he will play at Ole Miss on Tuesday and the fortuitous drum beat of that pending decision has grown louder since last fall. He took an unofficial visit to Oxford when the Rebels played Auburn and was rumored to have privately committed to the Rebels. He was back on the Ole Miss campus the weekend of Jan. 31 for a junior day.
Shea Patterson's Crystal Ball on Friday morning was trending heavily toward Ole Miss at a 61 percent rate, followed by LSU at 21 percent and USC at 18.
The Rebels currently have eight commitments in their 2016 pledge class, which is ranked No. 2 in the nation and tops in the SEC.

I still don't understand why he is a four-star on 247 in the 40s overall. ESPN has him as a four-star in the high 20s.

I'm more inclined to go with Rivals and Scout's evaluations of him as he looks like the real deal.

If shea commits our class will only be 50 TOTAL POINTS below the 2015 class already.
