From Rivals pertaining to Mique Juarez:

quote:

LB Mique Juarez, Torrance (Calif.) North (5-star)

Juarez committed to USC early in the process but never seemed fully comfortable with that decision. After Steve Sarkisian was let go, Juarez officially re-opened his recruitment and instantly became a national commodity. UCLA has long been favored given proximity to home and the opportunity for immediate playing time following the departure of Myles Jack, but Juarez has certainly looked around. Alabama drew a visit last weekend and assistant coach Tosh Lupoi has some serious momentum there. Ole Miss also hosted Juarez and his family during the season and Juarez even threw up the “land shark” signal after making a tackle at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. A final official visit to BYU is set for this coming weekend, but the buzz right now is with the Crimson Tide.

Prediction: Alabama

I've been over Mique for a week now. I suggest you work towards that end as well.

Just pray he ends up at UCLA. Ben Davis, Lyndell Wilson, and Mique would be a bitch for dumbass teams not named Ole Miss to try to run against. You have to beat them vertically and on the edges. If Clemson had not have waited until midway through the 2nd Q to learn this, they'd have won. I watched in horror as they continually tried to run into the teeth of that front 7 early in the game.

Glad Cutcliffe is getting the job and I think he was by far the best coach on that team. JMO though.

5 burning recruiting questions: Final week before NSD

Courtney Cronin, The Clarion-Ledger

In a few days, it'll all be over.

We're talking about the recruiting mania surrounding the final weekend of official visits, of course. While Mississippi State hosted its big weekend for in-state prospects Jan. 15-17, it's Ole Miss' turn this weekend. Mississippi's two SEC programs continue to battle it out for the state's top prospects while Jackson State landed the biggest piece of its 2016 class and Southern Miss is still searching for a head coach days before Feb. 3.
Here's some insight to the most asked recruiting questions with under a week until NSD2016.

What will come out of Ole Miss' big recruiting weekend?

The Rebels have 22 commitments prior to the last official visit weekend where it will host more than 20 prospects. Ole Miss expects to sign upward of 27 players, so there are roughly five or six spots left that Hugh Freeze and his staff hope to solidify this weekend. Among the big names expected are five-star defensive end Jeffery Simmons, who is arguably the Rebels' top priority. We won't call them an overwhelming favorite, but the momentum surrounding Ole Miss landing Simmons has only increased week to week.
Four-star safety Deontay Anderson (Texas) and four-star wide receiver Mykel Jones (Louisiana) are also heavy leans and expected to become part of the group that rounds out this class, but two other names drawing attention are Starkville products A.J. Brown and Kobe Jones. While the Brown to Alabama narrative continues to grow stronger, sources believe Ole Miss stands in a good spot. The Rebels could take two more at slot receiver with Jones, Brown and Quartney Davis (took his official visit last weekend) all in the mix.
As far as its remaining defensive line targets, the Rebels' momentum with Jones has skyrocketed. The four-star defensive tackle is a clear priority, and Ole Miss may have the strongest position of any school right now for the Dandy Dozen selection. Cornerbacks Nigel Knott and Shyheim Carter will also be in attendance, and Ole Miss could feasibly take both in this class. While Knott has remained quiet about his recruitment the past few weeks, Alabama still appears to be the top contender.

Who has the most momentum with A.J. Brown?

For now, it's Alabama, but the four-star wide receiver's recruitment isn't over. Brown did not visit Mississippi State on Wednesday as expected and may or may not show up on campus before his official visit to Oxford. The Bulldogs are doing what they can to pull out all the stops and add a late commitment from Brown, and that includes bringing the idea of playing baseball more seriously into the mix. This weekend, the receiver will be at Ole Miss and would be a huge pickup to fill out one of the final slot receiver spots for the Rebels. The entire situation remains fluid, but Ole Miss has gained momentum over the past few days. Brown will announce his decision on signing day. Until then, stay tuned.

Is Mississippi State in panic mode?

MSU isn't in an ideal position with a handful of its remaining targets as time ticks away. It doesn't help the Bulldogs that West Point offensive tackle Scott Lashley is headed to LSU this weekend on an official visit as they have yet to land a commitment from the player many expected to be a Mississippi State pledge long before now. The same goes for Jones, who will have visited Alabama, Miami, Missouri and Ole Miss in a week's time when it's all said and done. MSU visited Jones at his home this week as well as Simmons at Noxubee County.. Mississippi State needs to avoid a black eye on signing day and it can realistically do that by going all in on guys like Knott, Lashley, Jones and Simmons. But, with all four of those guys headed elsewhere before the quiet period kicks in on Sunday, MSU is running out of time.

How does Mississippi State finish on the offensive line?

The offensive line could be Mississippi State's saving grace if the Bulldogs miss out on their remaining big-name targets. Fort Pierce Central (Fla.) offensive guard Stewart Reese visited Starkville last weekend and is expected to pick MSU on Monday per multiple sources. If what we've been hearing all along turns out to be true, Lashley will also be an addition for the Bulldogs and the future of this program at left tackle. Three-star guard Lloyd Cushenberry will take his official visit to South Carolina (where he's currently committed) this weekend and then make his decision. If proximity is that big of a factor, Mississippi State is out, but there are several close to this recruitment who believe Cushenberry will be a Bulldog. If Dan Mullen and his staff can sign these three in addition to tackles Dareuan Parker (DeSoto Central) and Greg Eiland (Philadelphia), MSU will be confident in the future of its offensive line.
