It all depends on how they experiment with Prewitt this spring and beyond.

Alford/Prewitt if things stay status quo.

Alford/Hampton if Prewitt plays in the box more.

Oh come on now Elston has been a major part in us turning things around. There is a place for him for sure.

Elston is a fast safety and hits hard.... He could be really good but he makes a lot of bone headed errors as far as coverage goes

Verdict:

Good rotational guy for certain situations but not starter quality - runningbacks beware

Elston takes some of the worst angles I've ever seen.

He should be in the rotation, but definitely shouldn't be starting.

Topical joke of yesteryear:

What do Trey Elston and Jerry Sandusky have in common?

They both served time for laying wood to a miner/minor.

He is a Sophomore of course he is going to make some mistakes. He will keep getting better.

The reason I added that is he didn't show any improvement from his freshman year in that aspect of his game

Well if we have Prewitt, Elston, C. Brown, CJ, Hottie, TC and Alford all playing FS/Rov/Huskey, it's going to be hard for Elston to keep his starting job IMO.

You're talking about a guy who starts as a freshman and doesn't produce as much as his freshman year so it's automatically a decline in talent?

No a starter loses his spot to someone who is better. Idk if he'll lose his spot or not but it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

No but with the influx of good talent at Safety, his athleticism can't justify starting amidst his blown coverages. Competition merging with more talent... Not a hard concept

He started as a FR because we had no one else who was any good at all. He is terrible in coverage. How many FS have 0, thats right 0, picks in 2 full years? He is a depth player at any of the top teams in the conference and hopefully we will have the talent next year so he can be a role payer here as well.

Is this sarcasm? I can't tell.

Tell us why you believe Elston will still be a starter next year. The "he's a 2 year starter" argument alone is invalid so prepare to be ridiculed if that's what you go with.

I think he has the potential to be a legit starter, but he just hasn't really progressed like you said. His ball skills are probably the worst in the secondary.

Hopefully he makes a jump next year and the incoming talent just pushes him even more.
