I still can’t believe our TE room will be so improved. This is Beers.

I want Heinecke back as much as anyone. Super smart and tough as nails. 74 tackles, 12 TFL's (my favorite being the absolute spear he laid on the Mizzou RB) 3 sacks and forced a fumble.
I didn't realize they're counting 15 minutes of playing time across 3 lacrosse games against him. C'mon, NCAA...

Is Owen at the Senior Bowl? Thought that might be an issue that would mess with eligibility.

No idea. But talk about a breakout season. And he used tape/film to show BV he deserved a chance to play more.

Owen Heinecke: A Breakout Season for the Ages
Owen Heinecke’s college football path has been anything but conventional — and that’s exactly what makes his 2025 season so remarkable.
Heinecke began his collegiate career in 2021 at Ohio State, where he played one season of lacrosse, he appeared in three games before transferring to Oklahoma. In 2022 he Did Not Play, then spent 2023 and 2024 he contributing on special teams and as a reserve linebacker.
Over those two seasons, Heinecke appeared in 26 games, accounting for 11 total tackles
Then came 2025 — and everything changed.
Given an expanded opportunity, Heinecke didn’t just contribute — he exploded.
2025 Season Highlights
Second on the team in tackles (74), trailing only Kip Lewis
12 tackles for loss (including sacks)
2 quarterback hurries
4 pass breakups
1 forced fumble
1 fumble recovery
Led the Sooners in tackles five times
Started the final five games of the season
Second Team All-SEC (AP)
Don Key Award Winner
His first career start came against Tennessee, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Heinecke posted a season-high 13 tackles and played a central role in one of the defining moments of the year.
Heinecke sacked Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar and forced a fumble, setting off a historic sequence. Defensive end R. Mason Thomas scooped the ball and raced 71 yards for a touchdown — the longest fumble return for a touchdown in Oklahoma football history.
A moment that perfectly captured Heinecke’s season:
Heinecke’s went from a Special Teams guy to Second Team All-SEC honors, a remarkable achievement for a player who had spent years waiting for his moment.
He has now petitioned the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility, though a decision has not yet been announced.

How long does it take for the NCAA to tell us and I am guessing they won't give him the extra year?

I checked on the interwebs and found Owen's name among the linebackers invited. Could not determine actual attendance.
My guess is all the NFL scouts know his limbo status, and he's probly just networking in person on his own dime.
I asked Google Gemini about Senior Bowl attendance and college eligibility, it gave this answer:
"Attending Senior Bowl week without playing does not inherently cost a college football player their remaining eligibility, provided they do not sign with an agent or accept prohibited benefits. Participation in practices/activities alone is allowed, but declaring for the NFL draft or signing with an agent will terminate NCAA eligibility.
Practice vs. Play: Players can attend, practice, and participate in meetings during Senior Bowl week without violating NCAA rules, provided they maintain amateur status.
Draft Declaration: Formally declaring for the NFL Draft constitutes a loss of eligibility.
Professional Representation: Signing with an agent to represent them in the draft, or accepting money, terminates eligibility, regardless of whether they play in the game."

frick the NZAA
NCAA has denied Owen Heinecke's petition for another year at OU. When other players are being granted 7th and 8th years of football, CFB governing body has ruled Owen won't get a 4th year. Evidently, this walk-on's three games of lacrosse at Ohio State in 2021 couldn't be reconciled.
There will be an appeal.
If that appeal is denied, one lucky NFL team is going to get a stud two-contract player and an even better human being.
Love everything you're about, Owen.
You stand for everything that is pure and great about college football,

I totally remember The Boz wearing his classic T-Shirt - made it to national TV!
Yep, even when I ask the free A.I. systems like "Gemini" about NCAA decisions - even the A.I. systems describe the NCAA as inconsistent and unpredictable.
It's pretty bad when even the A.I. systems see that an organization is a dumpster fire.
I guess we'll see how our new player-personnel management staff (Nagy, Denny, and crew) navigate the lawyering and politicking at this next level appeal.
I have confidence those guys can right this wrong.

Man... how fricking retarded. frick the fricking NCAA. I think James Hale's reply indicating the NCAA has a hard-on for OU because of the 1984 TV-related litigation.
