I imagine that they will let him coach the final game against Texas first...

Could this be Porters last game? Prolly not as we have the SEC tourney too

After another complete and utter meltdown in regulation OU pulls out the win in OT. Somehow it saves Porter for now. I am flabbergasted because he is a bad coach and we can’t fix program until he’s gone.
There is no fan enthusiasm for him and the team by default. That hurts getting money investments from donors and likely recruits.
He is not made for NIL era where players change every year. He only works when he has 3-4 years to develop players, untenable in this new era.
So I’m always happy to beat tx, but it might cost us a new coach. What a dilemma.

For those who still care, game tonight in SEC tourney

FYI, if I was on a normal OU board I could never post a header like this thread and never speak out so openly how bad Moser is. Its why I am not a member of any OU only board and why posting here is enjoyable. You can post your thoughts and so can those who oppose those thoughts.

I've seen plenty of comments on other boards thinking that Porter should go. At the same time I've seen some comments stating that we are like 15 out of 16 in the SEC in NIL spending for basketball, which handcuffs any coach from keeping talented players from leaving the team.

In the new NIL era you will never keep players for 3-4 years. Moser is only good in smaller programs that won’t have NIL and players stay. He’s a long term type teaching coach not a short term one who can max out 1 year players.
Coaches will have to adjust to this new NIL world
Also, the way he lost game this year had zero to do with NIL or program money. It was outright bad coaching. Just like the tx game end of regulation. He is a bad game manager no matter the players he had
I do agree we need to upgrade the money. Bit right now no one is going to give any money because they don’t believe in Moser.
Did you know last year Fears saved his job. Without Fears he is likely toast. But he lucked into Fears too. Fears reclassed way late and all other big programs had no roster spots so OU was lucky and did.
I have supported him throughout. I believed in him when others didn’t. This was my show me year and he did, showed me isn’t a big time coach. Its time to move on. The new arena will be built and open in Norman in what, 3 years? Maybe 4? We need to get a coach on now who can rebuild the program so when they do move to new arena fans will have something to cheer about

We can kiss his being fired goodbye

Get used to it because he will be here next year.

I haven't really kept up with basketball this year. I didn't have high hopes for the team, so that's probably why.
I think recruiting Europe is very important, and it's also important to find 3 star guys that can be developed and turn into all-conference performers. This helps your NIL spend. We have a couple of European players, but we likely need to find more. They're more disciplined and smarter than a lot of U.S. kids.
Florida's men and UCLA's women have done well with this approach. Condon and Haugh weren't stars coming out of HS. Look at them now.

I never root for the Sooners to lose so we can fire someone. I will hope they win and the coach can turn things around.

Great effort tonight just came up 3 short. Proud of how our Sooners played this week.

Yes, I have to eat some crow. Still not sold on Moser but he likely gets another year. And he finished 8-3 in last 11.
Players never quit credit to them. And they easily could have.

You want what's best for the program. No problem with that. And certainly some criticism can be given.
Just happy to see our guys giving a great effort and showing they belong. Something we can build on going forward.

My worry is he’s been a bubble team every year. Fears saved him last year when Moser lucked into him due to late reclassing. This year he lost some unforgivable games with bad coaching.
So although he likely gets another year he’s going to lose a lot of players this year. And then we get portals and with his system taking longer to gel we’ll be right back in the same spot.
He’s a likable guy but his coaching style doesn’t work well in NIL and free transfer era
His payout is $5.7M now which means he’ll get another year. I want him to be successful but after 5 years I’m not seeing the light. He scrambled to finish strong but I don’t think thats the answer.
We’ll have a new court in around 3-4 years and we might want another coach who can build us into a contender for when it opens. If he stays thats another year wasted imo.
Credit to both him and players though, they deserve to make playoffs as they are in the top 68 imo. But due to a DEI playoff system, lesser conferences have guaranteed slots which could push out a better team like OU. Thats reality.
