Maybe Josh Bates wins the starting center spot?

Gabe and Lehman mentioning what BV and BB said about Bates. Interesting.

He has worked very hard. I think we have some depth now which will help. I trust BB to make the right decisions too.

I suspect if Bates starts a game this year it is due to injury. I hope (and believe) he will be a very good center by next year, but Hickman has played against tough competition (including two years against Damonic Williams).
Williams has voiced his admiration for Hickman (saying they hated each other during their play against each other).
I would like to see Bates get some run with the second team in any blowouts, but starts seem unlikely.

Any kind of competition you can have thriving, especially in the OL room is good.
I think Hickman will win it to start the season, but Bates may be pushing him mid season for the #1 spot.
I can see some of these transfer guys coming on late in the season after they’ve acclimated to what BB wants from them.
OU has a LOT of experience up front, just need them to gel and play up to the BB standard.
