Little bit of a head fake. I priced it for our trip this summer. Most summer vacation rentals on 30A are done from a Saturday - Saturday. For my family of 5 to fly down and back (Sat-Sat) was just north of $2700. So, if you fly down mid week and return mid week you MIGHT be able to be a fare that low (that $68 is one-way), but in the peak seaon (when everyone goes) and on a weekend (when most go) you're going to pay substantially more than you would think.

Yes, i know. There's where i priced my flight. www.allegiant.com. My point is the $69 number is a headfake. When you're traveling in the summer (peak) and doing a Saturday to Saturday loop (peak) you're getting a full fare. Frankly, Delta thru Atlanta is only about $50 more expensive. Of course, this is a direct flight.

I think it's a no-brainer for you and your wife/signif other to bounce down there. The drive to 30A from NWA is fking brutal, but for a family of 5 (plus a nanny) it came out to be almost $3300. It sucks, but i'll drive for that amount.

Allegiant is great if you don't mind not getting to your destination.

I wouldn't fly Allegiant if they offered flights for free to anywhere.

There's a good reason why their the butt of most jokes in the airline business.

Our family used to go to 30A for about 20 years straight. Over those years, there were several times when we'd drive down, but someone would need to work some of the week and fly down to join us midweek. Or they might need to leave midweek to fly back for business. I think that this will be the most frequent use for this. As you said, most rentals are Saturday to saturday, so this does nothing for families trying to rent. In addition, we haul so much shite down when our family goes (Kayaks, bikes, ice chests, canopies, fishing gear, etc..) , that someone driving is kind of essential.

We haven't taken that trip in a few years, though. My mom isn't in the health to make it, and it was pretty much for her to get all of her grandkids and great grandkids in one place for a week.
