Atlanta has been issued a winter weather advisory. I live in Johns Creek north of Atlanta about 30 minutes. Calling for 1-2 inches of snow and 1/10 inch of ice.
The advisory per NOAA says sleet, rain and freezing rain Friday afternoon will change to all snow starting 7pm Friday night.
Me personally? My arse is getting to work super early tomorrow to GTFO well before 4PM. I'd have half a mind to work from home the way Atlanta drivers respond to this shite.
In 2013, they said snow was going to start around 6pm on a Tuesday night and it actually started at 11am during lunch.
Granted I don't think this storm is targeting is like that one did but still it doesn't take much for the ATL to lose it.

There is a candid discussion of the change in the advisory further south than expected. Looks like the wedge has dipped lower in the current models. Looks like Atlanta's fate depends on how fast the air conditions are able to change rain to snow is the mountains. This will increase the wraparound snow and quantity of it in Atlanta and south of Atlanta.

Yes. They forecasted the snow to start around 6 or 7 that night but it started at lunch. Me and a couple of colleagues were walking to lunch around 11:15 that day and the snow flurries started. We walked into the jimmy johns got our sandwiches and by the time we walked out it was a full on snow shower. I was thinking "meh" itll stop soon. It's too early. 30 minutes later at 12:15 snow was accumulating on the roads and I decided I better leave the office. Unfortunately everyone thought that and I gridlocked as conditions deteriorated.
Everyone depended on that snow hitting that night. But it happened early and it hit full force. It really was a mess.

Light snow here right now but we're supposed to get heavier bands throughout the day. Even if he does like it is right now for the next several hours, we'll have the 4+ they called for this morning. On top of the 4 already on the ground.

It wasn't just ATL. In Alabama, the forecast I watched at 5:00 the morning the storm hit was for the ice/snow line around Birmingham, little accumulation there, and only rain further south. None of it was forecast to start until mid-afternoon.
At 9 a.m. I looked out my office window in Montgomery - 90 miles south of Birmingham - and saw 1" icicles hanging from the bumpers of parked cars. The ice line ended up another 100 miles south of Montgomery. Nobody could get anywhere.
They missed by 8 hours and 200 miles. It might have been the biggest winter storm forecast miss in modern history.

I really hate winter now. We never get anything but stupid ice and sleet. I remember we used to get one big snow a year, but now nothing. Really tempted to move up north just for snow now.
