You should explore the stoned ape theory.

The human brain grew leaps and bounds during a time period that we know psychedelic mushrooms were a fixture in human diet. The brain grew more during this time than any other.

Intelligent enlightened folks tend to believe that psychedelics are an accelerator pad for evolution.

I do question why folks think there's benefits to being a drunk though.

Being a drunk does not equal people who get drunk.

I don't see any benefits to being a drunk but I do see benefits in getting drunk.

It helps you get laid. LOL!! This is an explanation of how "it helps you get laid"?

What if they don't really "think" about any "benefits", and just drink because they enjoy it?

Why would they do it if there aren't benefits? Something is appealing about it.

Fun is appealing to most people. Apparently it isn't to you.

I think someone brought up the monkey thing a few pages back. It still doesn't give the benefits, if any, of drunkenness.

I can't explain it til you until you stop framing a straw man argument for what intoxication even is every other post. Your comprehension must be lacking.

I meant more that i don't consciously "think" of the benefits that drinking will offer me, just like i don't think of the benefits that going fishing or hiking will offer me--i just enjoy doing it.

The "benefits" for me are: helps me relax, and it tastes good with the food i eat while i'm tailgating

Your answer suggests that many need to become someone other than themselves to have fun. If that's the case then there are lots of issues going on with the individual.

So what is your point? Human beings act in their own self interest in every aspect of life except when it comes to consuming alcohol?

Do you just cycle through the same three questions? I already answered that for you.

There is no straw man argument. The question is directly concerning your own personal statement concerning drunkenness..."it helps you get laid".

You're not going to explain how it 'helps you get laid' though, are you?

No it doesn't. Can I have fun without drinking? Yes. Is it fun to drink? Yes.

But drinking apparently allows you to become something, or someone, that you cannot be while not drinking or there would be no need to do it.

At the beginning of the thread I pointed out that drunkenness makes one another person, it's mind altering, personality altering. For the past 15 pages I've seen nothing but support for that view.

The benefit for you is to become someone else. That's why you, and others I guess, get drunk. That is an answer to my question of "why do folks get drunk".

This is so fricking stupid. Why the frick are you holding on to this? You can't make your argument any other way than this lie, can you?

now you just are answering the question with your own answer that you had from the get-go

Don't ask if you think you already know the answer

I don't become someone else though. If I drink around people I'm not as comfortable with, I become how I usually act around people I am comfortable with. So it allows me to be myself around people I'm not comfortable with I guess, making it more fun to be around those people.

This is excluding getting totally shitfaced as I would not act the same as I usually do.
