Why did we quit going to the moon

Bc we heeded their warning. And smartly so.

Because the government thinks that we could and should spend that kind of cash on better investments. I personally think we should spend more money on making things like the James Webb telescope happen. It was already supposed to be launched yet here we are still talking about how awesome it will be when it gets launched.

Going to the moon was awesome. The future is in better propulsion systems so that we can send more probes to the outer solar system and get them there much quicker.

There is a shite ton of money to be made mining asteroids in a future where we can get the equipment there cheaper than we can right now. Helium 3 deposits may be in the moon where we could mine there for it. That would be one hell of a fuel source among other uses. Other than the moon we would have to mine the helium from the atmosphere of Jupiter or Saturn and that will never happen.

It is exploration progress. Who knows what is out there, but the moon is the closest thing so you get good at going to it first.

The only real alternative to going to the moon is going into Earth and why we don't explore the ocean depths or further explore inside Earth. Those are the only real directions to go for explorers unless you go metaphysical/spiritual route.

The "joke" about why we quit going to the moon and why technology hasn't progressed as rapidly as it used to is because there's no Nazi scientists left.

Yeah, you know why Christopher Columbus and other explorers usually went out to find stuff? Cash money, gold, resources, sometimes slaves and everything that can be returned to investors.

There is literally nothing on the moon, and the biggest problem is that it costs a ton of money along with devastating risks. Even routine launches can fail, people can die, equipment lost -- China almost had a massive disaster when its space junk from a satellite nearly hit New York.

Our technology is still lacking, too, which is why we probably don't even have the capacity to make a lunar base or something similar. It's amazing how far we have come, but it's even more incredible in how far we have to go to even do basic things in Space.

Funding and pursuit of the next endeavor. Last several years of the apollo program my grandpa was chief engineer of the Saturn iv-b, the 3rd stage they rode 200k+ miles on top of to lunar orbit. Well it got retrofitted to fly up skylab, our first attempt at a manned space station. Skylab orbit decayed before the shuttle was ready to push it back into orbit, crashed into the ocean in 79. We never landed on the moon.

The lifeforms that came back from the moon made damn sure the human race had little reason to go back. They've taken new forms but they've established themselves into our government and pushed a Mars based agenda so they can establish new colonies.

We have more money and more technology than we ever did and have yet to touch the moon.

Why not pursue mining of asteroids though if the goal is resource gathering, and not exploration/colonization? Send probes, find an asteroid with valuables and send equipment up to mine it

It is well known that NASA hired Stanley Kubrick to film the moon landings. Of course, being a stickler for details, he insisted on shooting on location.



Nah. We went there, the Soviets went there, the Chinese are hoping to go there in person. We even left behind retroreflectors to measure the moon's distance from Earth. Hell, just last year India and Israel managed to land on the moon though both probes crashed. India, Japan, and the European Space Agency have all landed probes there.

Once you get out of Earth's orbit than landing on the moon is easy. You might not survive that landing since one glitch could cause you to crash, but we can get there.

With some of the newer designs that will be tested soon I wouldn't be surprised if we have a new manned moon landing in the next decade.
