With a picture of Stonewall Jackson above my head
Then daddy came in to kiss his little man
With gin on his breath and a Bible in his hand
He talked about honor and things I should know
Then he'd stagger a little as he went out the door

I wish a buck was still silver
it was back when country was strong
Back before Elvis and before Viet Nam war came along
Before the Beatles and "Yesterday"
When a man could still work and still would
Is the best of the free life behind us now?
And are the good times really over for good?

Harry, I honestly have no clear answer to your query.
However?…I hope you find some solace & comfort knowing that You and I and Van Halen are all stumped by the SAME conundrum:
“Where Have All The Good Times Gone??”

My father would read Uncle
Remus stories as a little kid, at bedtime, And he would do the voices. One of of my best memories from childhood. I got that book rebinded, and gave it to him for Christmas one year so he could read it to grandkids

I can still hear the soft subtle wind through the live oak tree...
and those Williams boys still mean a lot to me. Hank and Tennessee.
I guess we are gonna be what we are gonna be.
So what do you do with good ole boys like me?
Gotta quit there cause I am living on Tulsa Time.

:kige:
Uncle Remus was a part of my childhood along with AW's fried chicken, Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, and the dude from the Cream of Wheat box was there every morning. I hate that the PC folks are killing them off and do not appreciate the love I had for them.
Worst offender is the PC folks and "Little Black Sambo" which was a big part of my childhood and told me to fight the good fight with heart & mind. Like "Gulliver's Travels" and :Alice in Wonderland". These books were disguised as children's books while addressing the social issues of the day.
Little Black Sambo was Indian (dot not feature) and the Tiger represented the British Empire and the fight for India for self rule from Colonial Rule. In each book Sambo (representing India) had to use his body and mind to outwit the Tiger (representing Britain) and not get eaten.
These books are banned now because Americans took it as an offense to them when it had nothing to do with them. Damn shame if you ask me.
