It doesn't take any balls to say that you're Christian. Quite the opposite for a professional athlete to say he's gay.

So true. In our society, especially in the South, it's difficult for a child to tell his parent he's gay, period. I'm not religious at all and my son had a difficult time coming out to me. I later asked him why and he said because of the expectations I'd placed upon him to succeed in life. He had, mostly from his peers, learned that being gay was bad and he assumed I'd now regard him as a failure.

Of course I don't but he didn't know that at the time. I get misty eyed to this day thinking of the struggle it must have been for him. I admire the hell out of him and he knows it. There's nothing on earth I wouldn't do for him.

Well, thank you for your considered assessment. I've been on the Rant long enough to know that the vast majority of posters, including you, tend to lay out their opinions. I'm thrilled to get my very first "a-hole" label from one of the finest of the Rant. Thank you very much. I have arrived!

I hope you see where I'm coming from.

Yep, and I hope you see that I have a very different viewpoint from yours, and why.
