Figured Louisiana would be toward the bottom. List is kind of weird and not sure I agree with how they do it though my current state is in the top 15. We’re in the mid 30s for crime and corrections but the state is very safe. Their definition that includes “fairness of the prison system” is very hard to measure and honestly not something I care about when picking a place to live. Can’t imagine that anyone cares about that because most people will never go and certainly never plan on going to prison.

Anyhow, Washington is a nice state. Iowa is as well.

I can't argue with the ranking for Arkansas to be honest. Yes, there is the caveat of NW Arkansas (two counties) is in the top 5 best places to live in America but there are quite a few dismal areas to live in this state.

I will say, as much as it pains me to do so, that Louisiana is not the worst place to live in America. Yes, they had a craptacular governor who put them behind the 8 ball, but there are worse places in the country.

If you could draw a line from Jonesboro to Texarkana thru downtown Little Rock, and chop off everything east of that, Arkansas would skyrocket in these rankings.

Most of the rural areas in north and western Arkansas aren't dismal. There are areas with few economic opportunities, but they're also surrounded by beautiful natural areas and good folks.

The Mississippi Delta is depressing on both sides of the river.
