Tupelo cancelled all classes today, as expected.

To me I would think those other schools would've had students come in on time that way if they needed to send them home around 12 or 1 they would've gotten something done. Instead students are going in a 11 and may be out in 2 hours
I guess their thinkin nobody got any sleep so they needed to let them sleep in

Thanks. Medic deserves a medal for his efforts. I've just been updating an OP and throwing out general predictions based on my brain and little actual science.

What time is this stuff supposed to start getting stupid today?

I'll say with some pride I generally got the region right yesterday for the most concern. It would be more impressive if the professionals hadn't already said it.

Into the early afternoon into the evening. Instability needs time to ramp up before anything happens. I believe the earliest start will be around the McComb and Picayune areas and migrate North and East as the afternoon gets rolling.
Keep a watchful eye east of Jackson and up toward Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. I suspect they will have more widespread coverage. There is potential in SE Mississippi for some violent tornadoes though.

Thanks. I think you've found your true calling.

It's always been my calling. Since I was 4 years old. Too bad it's not the most lucrative of callings for all the schoolin' I'd be forced to do. My current degree path would pair nicely if I ever decided to go get a PhD in Meteorology. It's all physics.

Huntsville should be fairly calm this afternoon, no?

In theory the instability won't be able to migrate up there fast enough to spark supercells. Don't expect much severe weather, but stay aware. It only takes one rouge supercell to frick up your day.

Based on HRRR model @5p shows storms over Madison

Seems as if we got very lucky last night. Apparently a tornado passed right behind my house, and had actually flattened one a mile down my road, and a few more across the highway. There are huge trees down everywhere.

Yeah it got pretty rough out my way. Didn't get power back till after 9:00

The MOB NWS has the timing for storms to start popping off to be around Noon-2pm over the area I highlighted. Once the low level jet gets going, it's not going to take much to get storms rotating once they blow up.

yeah, we got power back around 7 this morning. We have nothing but old people as neighbors, and I'm sure there are several with oxygen priorities. yay for old people.
