Respect is earned.

People are so willing to call others trash all the while spewing that we should respect those who live off of the taxpayers backs and such.

I think her trailer park comment was meant to be mildly sarcastic. I may be wrong, though.

This kind of got spun out of control a little bit.

You don't know the difference between a trailer park and a housing project?

that's true. but we as a society cant just ignore it and say, "oh well." we have a responsibility to review it, understand it, and do what we can to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Yes, my all caps comment was complete sarcasm.

People here overreact.

I have no problem with people who live in trailer parks as long as they pull their own weight.

Clearly you're not.

There hasn't been a murder in that town for 100 years.

The kid was not a violent criminal.

The fact that it went down the way it did is bizarre.

And before you add it all up let's get the story confirmed. Makes a huge difference if it was a white wii controller at his hip or a real gun pointed at the cop.

Most housing projects no longer exist. I know that most here in Atlanta were torn down. Now the government pays for them to occupy an approved residence. They're usually trailer parks or low income apartment housing.

Trailer parks are generally not subsidized. It's just low-income housing. No different than a cheap apartment complex.

to a degree.

but all respectable adults should have a baseline of respect for their fellow man, regardless of whether it has been earned.

hypothetically: do you walk up to a crowded line of people and think to yourself, "i dont know those mother frickers, they've never earned my respect," and then jump ahead in line. you might, if you are a piece of trash a-hole

For me it's more about accountability. If the cop screwed up yhen he should be charged and tried just like any citizen would be. That dosen't happen to cops who screw up and/or lie and fabricate evidence. What happens is other cops back them up no matter what. I can't wait for the day that a lying cop and his budfies get a RICO charge slapped on their asses.

They make them in different colors now. My kids have hot pink controllers.

No. I don't frequent places that draw that clientele though.

Fire away. Every comment today offends someone.

Why didn't they identify themselves as police? Why did they have the guns drawn serving a misdemeanor probation violation?

Yes, I know this.

Which is why I made a point to say 'white'.

If it was a black controller it aids the cops story.

He made a threatening gesture with a weapon or weapon like object. Personal history doesn't matter.

Not to mention, you don't unholster a weapon for no reason. Obviously they perceived some threat inside the house or they wouldn't have weapons out.

You would have to know the criminal history of the person being served to know why weapons were drawn. You'd have to know the priors of the person that the warrant was being served upon.

I've never been bullied by LEO's either. They've always been very nice on the rare occasion that I've interacted when them on duty.

I've lived in both worlds. My parents are what most would consider well off but I have family and friends who would be perfect bully targets both because of class and color. So I have experience in multiple worlds and the non-affluent/non-middle class/non-white one is no fun at all when it comes to how you're treated by the bullies among police forces and people.

Tale of four cars for ya:

The first car I borrowed when mine was in need of repair was my mom's Lincoln. That sucker hugged the roads better than any traditional sports car and had a V8 in it. And lemme tell you I enjoyed driving it if you catch my drift.

The second car was a friend of mine's beat up mustang. It was what most would consider very poor person looking. I got pulled over the first day I drove it (same drive as before) and the cop was rude and abusive from the word go. A speeding ticket became 'reckless driving' and he tried to claim I was on intoxicated (it was around 9.00 in the morning and I was on the way to work!). At one point he tried to claim I had drugs on me. He tried to pretend that the little bit of tobacco that had collected in a pack of cigs was marijauana (it wasn't but even if it had been we're talking tiny specks of tobacco that, if you were cooking, weren't enough to even constitute a pinch of seasoning) I don't even remember all the charges he filed against me/or tried to file against me because they didn't stick 24hrs before the DA dropped them. Because I have means I had an attorney and that shite went away without so much as a peep or protest from the cop who'd tried his damndest to railroad me when he thought I couldn't fight back.

However, what I remember most about the encounter is how subhuman I was treated. He was abusive and rude and had it not been daylight I don't know how bad it would've gotten. I do know another cop who arrived on the scene intervened on my behalf.

The third car
was the one that had been broken down. I'd gotten it fixed and wanted to trade it for a new one and was pulled over when a cop noticed I'd forgotten to get my new reg sticker. This was an average car/middle class car kept in good shape but it was getting older 2001 or something. The cop was sweet as candy and let me go with a warning.

The fourth car
is my new one: It's brand new and we got busted speeding in a school zone. Caught dead to rights. Not only was the cop nice as could be he decided not to bother citing us. This cop also didn't bother with making sure we had insurance even though the state just made that a heftier crime (I was about to pull it up on my phone because TN accepts electronic proof of insurance but obviously he made the deduction that since we were in a brand new car we had insurance and proper registration). He even went so far as to tell us to make sure we were careful going into a certain area because we were headed that way and Highway Patrol was out in force.

That just gives you an idea. But again the easy way to see how people respond and the assumptions they make is to dress like you're poor and go to a department store to shop.
