No, they don't. The fact that makes sense to you simply reinforces my opinion of the current trends in law enforcement in this country.

Holy shite. You can't help yourself.
Eta: you better hope you're never involved in an incident in a trailer park which ends up being investigated. This thread would be a gold mine for a civil suit.

So just because it was in a trailer park it's okay to back the cop despite the situation pointing to an unjustified shooting?
Following up: Do you think cops are too trigger happy?

Nationwide, not really. Certain areas, yes.
Until I see a report to the contrary, it's justified.

Are you ever cynical at all about the police force's intentions?

I'm cynical about most things.
I really doubt that the officer woke up planning to shoot some trailer park resident though...

I supose we disagree as there in my experience have been some extremely trigger happy cops, so hearing about this teenage boy dying on his doorstep definitely upset me.
I don't think it was planned, but the escalation of force from police has palpably gotten worse since the mid 90's.
It has to stop. Regardless of the findings in this case the trigger-happy cops need to learn to holster their weapons.
At one time the cops I knew would only fire in the case of a direct threat on their life,
now they are approaching with guns drawn for silly things, even speeding tickets and misdemeanors.
I guess I just want most cops not on a call to be like Barney Fife.

In a nation of 300,000,000+ people you cite an isolated tragedy as a way to justify guns up traffic stops?

You want to talk about circumstances making perfect sense.
The officer who shot the kid has been investigated for her behavior in the past, which includes a shooting incident. She was terminated in 2012. She clearly is not a model cop.
There has not been a shooting in this town in 100 years, the kid did not have a violent history, and the officer in question went to the door with her gun out and ready to shoot.
You want to talk about circumstances making sense. Please.

Most officers killed in the line of duty are killed on routine traffic stops.
I'm not saying draw down on everyone, but it can certainly be warranted in some cases.

I normally try to stay out of posting serious shite in threads like this, but...
Really? Really? This officer was killed during a routine traffic stop on I65 in 2009.
Yes, there are some officers that are on a power trip, but 95% of them are trying to make a decent living to support themselves or their family. They go to work every day knowing that this day, could be their last. They could pull over the wrong person, and BAM they're dead. They put their lives on their line, and they have one of the most thankless jobs in this country. So until you've been there, stop judging them. They're not trying to be Barney Fife.

She wasn't terminated for the shooting, Reynolds Wrap.

Sometimes I wonder if coming guns up makes the situation more dangerous, as most people see the weapon as an intent to cause harm, not a way to prevent it.

All in all, I'd say it can make things more dangerous. People shouldn't be afraid of being shot during routine police interactions.
It also makes otherwise innocent people resentful of being nearly shot for having a tail-light out or any other simple traffic stop.
edit:

Everyone goes to work knowing this. There are more dangerous jobs than being a police officer.
Please stop using isolated and unplanned tragedies as a way to justify Guns Up traffic stops.

Kerrick and the other officers were responding to a report from a woman who mistook Ferrrell for a burglar when he knocked on her door in the middle of the night seeking help. Kerrick says Ferrell continued to approach after he was repeatedly ordered to stop, leading Kerrick to believe the use of deadly force was necessary to prevent death or serious injury.
Didn't comply. Got shot.

Yes, I can read.
The point is she's been in hot water multiple times for various things and has been terminated. She is not a model cop by any means.
You want to talk about trailer parks being full of bad citizens as a point in your favor.
Well it appears this is no model cop. Which is a bit of an equalizer to your trailer park argument.

292 officers have been killed by gunfire
10 officers have killed by stabbing

Lol. You're gone shoot some innocent person some day. I'm sure it will all be justifiable.
And despite your selective quoting of the officer's testimony, he is now on trial. So not everyone saw it the way you do.
