I think the dogs know Hope is gone. They are being very affectionate and loving. More than normal. I appreciate their awareness.

You're seeing the signs of your love. It's your time to rest, and they know that. Because they love you, because you loved them.

The scene is from a movie but based on real life.
The dead man is John Belushi in real life and his friend (Bill Murray) was a mourning his dead friend in the way Belushi's people did in real life. If you have a EMT or State Trooper friend you would be appalled at the words and humor out of their mouth until you understand it is a coping mechanism.
Some mourn sadly
Some mourn with humor
Some mourn with sexual congress
Some with negative observations (Like Murray does with Belushi)
We all mourn, just in different ways and with different methods.

Aw. Sorry to hear. I love cats as much as I love dogs so this hits close.

I've been through the exact same situation with my cat. She was 13 though. She got oral cancer, and it was like a ping pong ball in her jaw size. I fed her the absolute best treats and gave her her favorite food, tuna in a can, for several weeks at the end. It got to where she slobbered blood everywhere. I then put her in the car and was balling on the drive while she was clueless as to what was happening.
When we got to the vet and were in the patient room waiting on vet, she was meowing a lot. I think she could tell even though she may would've meowed even if she was healthy there.
I held her down while she was euthanized then cried more. Vet gave me a trash bag, and I was like there is no way in hell I'm putting my cat in a trash bag to go home. Give me a box y'all have leftover from shipping items or something. I then took her to backyard and dug a grave in the center. She was such a nice cat. "Kitty".

My friends and family are now collecting things that say Hope. Her little spot will be a shrine of love. Today I get to work on her little cross headstone where I have a metal sign that says Hope. She was a huge part of me for her short life. She was the greeter of my house and the love you felt inside. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and her presence was a joyful one. Just a little one eyed ball of love. The love my family and friends are showing tells me her life was worth saving. That while short she loved deeply and carved a little goblin shaped hole in each of their hearts. Goodness I miss her. I don’t think I’m ready for another right now. But I do think when I am the cat distribution system will give me another when that time comes.
Thank you again for all the love and kind comments.
