Phil Jackson died? He was such a great coach for the Bulls and Lakers.

RIP

I've never been a Dead Head at all. Not sure why the lack of connection. But I respect them.

If I had to venture a guess, it's because of the drugs. I actually like their music, but most people will try and convince you which show sounds best. When in actuality, the live shows lack any form of structure, each song is filled with 10 minutes of space, and the vocals are generally horrific (in terms of what I think you'd prefer to hear).

The drugs might have been great in the context of the times, but it really affected them and their ability to play, especially several years in.

This is essentially blasphemous, but try their studio stuff.

You also might trend a little more rhythm and blues, so their earlier albums or something like Blues for Allah might be more your speed.

In other words, I bet there's something there for you, but don't listen to the purists in this case, because they're more than likely remembering how that change in bass felt 45 minutes in during the middle of an acid trip (which is fine, but I think you had to have experienced it that way first to understand it that way now).

Here's an example that I've posted here before:

And for those who would suggest the Dead can't be both of the above, I'd respectfully offer the following studio-produced tracks.

Because if Help on the Way/Slipknot/Franklin's Tower doesn't sound good to your ears when you're sober, and simultaneously send you to another planet when you're not, I don't know what else to say.

Good tune, written after the altamount incident with the hell's angels. Probably my favorite by them.

I have some friends from when I lived in the bay area who were dead heads. As in traveled with the band back in the day. It was more about the lifestyle for them from what I gather, that's what they mostly talked about. You could tell they were all really old friends.

Some of them still met up for Radiator shows, but I think they quit touring for the most part about 10 years ago. That's how I met them, except for my friend who took me to the show to start with. Lots of X and acid.

Bob Weir played with the Radiators a few times as well in SF. But not everyone likes him for some reason.
