It's a useless degree. Same as Women's studies (or however they spell it).

I was gonna ask, to where, what profitable field of endeavor, would that degree apply in today's world other than perhaps some made-up government bullshite job?

Professor of African American studies. Tenured professor is one of the best jobs in the world.

If you have no drive or ambition and want to make roughly what a public school teacher makes. Sure. It's awesome.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Sure I do. The pay for an AA professor at Mizzou is about the same as a public school teacher with a Masters + 30 hours and a decade or so of experience at a metro St. Louis school. Any questions?

The average salary for a full professor is around $100,000. Do you know any public school teachers making that much?

Eta: nice edit

We're not talking average. We're talking African American studies. The two I looked up were ~$61k and ~$71k at Mizzou. Humanities doesn't pay like the sciences.

My edit was to change "doctorate" to "Masters + 30 hours" because that's the salary schedule in Missouri for public teachers.

Yep, just like public school teachers.

Maybe after 30 years.

1). How old is the average professor when they're hired?

2). Here's a salary schedule for a suburban St Louis public school.
LINK

In it you'll note that with the same education required of a university professor, they will reach $63k at year 11 (or roughly the age of 33 if they apply themselves). There's a hell of a lot of people with doctorates wandering around universities who would be delighted to have benefits and $63k in salary at the age of 33.

Eta: Obviously that's in the humanities.

Show me a 33 year old public school teacher making $63,000 per year and I'll show you a fricking unicorn.

My argument was that a tenured professor is one of the best jobs a person can have. You can continue to argue that fact if you want, but you'll still be wrong.

Not in this department/field. You can continue to argue that, but you'll still be wrong.

So you're saying a $70,000 salary for working 8 months out of the year is a bad job?

I refer you to my initial remarks.

If you have no drive or ambition and want to make roughly what a public school teacher makes.
