My answer to that question would be that the difference is culture and membership.
Membership: The OTL is the off topic board for Tiger Droppings and Tiger Droppings Posters...LSU fans basically. That's speaking broadly but it's more or less accurate. There is some overlap between the two sides of the site, some people post often on both the SECR and TD sides of the divide but many do not. There are many, most, TD posters that I just don't recognize because they don't post over here and I rarely go over there...and I doubt I'm alone in that.
We have usernames, avatars, and signatures so we can remember people and get to know them...that's at the core of any message board. It makes sense for there to be two boards and for a largely SECR poster to come here rather than the OTL.
Culture: This is linked to the Membership but the OTL has a predictable skew toward Lousiana. Of the topics on the first page of the OTL right now there are the following LA focused threads:
1. 2018 Termite Swarm has begun
2. Heartwarming love story began at Slidell nudist resort
3. Chemical Plant in Duson, LA Explosion I10 Closed Both Directions
4. TGIMLLD: Thank gawd it's Mitch Landrieu's last day
5. Those who drive I12 east through Slidell
There is a less pronounced skew toward East Texas as well. That's great if you're familiar with the area or have an interest down there but many people don't and it just isn't relevant.
So same answer as Lew just expanded a bit.

The SEC Rant is for sports and that's it. Ranking college towns, hottest girls on campus, which coach has the bigger hog, etc. that all belongs here. While it relates to the SEC, it's not about sports.

He was a Missouri fan who posted here pretty frequently 4ish years ago. He took himself very seriously, talked down to everyone, and thought he was smarter and more sophisticated than everyone else...he also held some weird beliefs in a mentally ill sort of way. He was tolerated for a very long time because his schtick was funny but after a while he was kind of run out of here.

I knew I worded that wrong. It’s not only OT stuff that has some kind of SEC affiliation. This board would be more dead than it already is. Here is what this board is for IMO:
OT topics: boobs, movies, etc
SEC topics that aren’t related to sports: best campus without a lake, academic rankings, UGA students getting arrested, etc
If I’m still not making sense then whatever is on this board right now is what’s meant to be on this board.
