Your economic "boom" is because y'all lost so much business a couple of years ago. Had to resort to making up rumors about savannah and it's port to try and get business back, which we're still beating y'all. And for all the "massive influx" of people, kinda weird it's still smaller than savannah. Charleston is cleaner, I'll give you that. But you pricks and snobs act like its the way it was 100 years ago. Welcome to being Savannah's little brother.

LMAO this is hilarious. Charleston proper may be smaller than Savannah but that's b/c its an ocean bound peninsular city w/ a zoning height restriction, you literally cannot build anywhere and it will always hover around 150k. County wise, though, CHS is 100k larger and growing at a faster rate.
As for "lost business" I have no idea what you're talking a/b. CHS is still one of the top 10 ports in the US, the difference being that we don't rely almost exclusively on our port for business like Savannah. CHS has a strong, growing tech industry and a much more thriving tourism industry.
And leaving all the economic stuff aside, no one in CHS gives a shite a/b Savannah. Y'all talk a/b us to the point where I couldn't even say I was from CHS while visiting Savannah w/o getting an eye roll. The funny thing was, I had no idea that attitude existed: y'all are the only people perpetuating the "rivalry." It'd be like if a bunch of Bama fans traveled to play Oklahoma State and got treated like shite b/c the Cowboys somehow mistakenly regarded them as equivalents.
Y'all have a perfectly nice, regionally known city that is fun to visit, but it is in no way a first class destination or regarded as such like Charleston is. Put your shirt back on.

When I think first class destination, I certainly don't think Charleston.

I'm going by what the travel mags say. #1 City in US, #1 City in World, etc. It's small so it'll never have the instant visibility of Rome, Paris, NYC, but it's certainly same as saying Napa, Cape Cod, Cabo, Key West...

I'd say that's a stretch.

And it shouldn't. Those are iconic cities.

Who cares about Cabo? Napa is an entire region. Cap Cod would blow Charleston out of the water. Key West... meh.

Funny. I have subscriptions to several. I've never seen this.

As is Charleston, on a smaller scale.

I got back from Cape Cod three weeks ago. It doesn't blow Charleston out of the water AND it's an entire region just like Napa.
The point is whether you like those places or not, they are regarded as premier travel destinations. As is Charleston. Savannah is a tier below.

OK. There are plenty of travel sites that put Savannah ahead of Charleston. No matter what your feelings are, you can find something to support them.

Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast are the industry giants. I'm sure you can dig up a blog or a budget travel site that says Savannah has just as much to offer, but those publications don't shape perception.

This is true. Our coast has been overrun! I don't think I would want to live in Charleston, and I would have to agree about the city being snobby.
I worked at a grocery store here in Columbia during college, and I had to float down to the Charleston store for a couple shifts. Whenever I told customers that I floated down from Columbia, many people didn't hesitate to insult and put down my home.

I'm familiar with the two. I have a subscription to Travel + Leisure.
I know you live in Charleston, so you're probably a bit biased. Personally, as someone who lives in neither city, I'd rather vacation in Savannah though.

Yankee snobs patronize the south. Yet as we speak I-65 is loaded with them driving to vacation in the south. Rarely will you see southerners driving the other way to play. Snow bird beetches..........

This is the biggest crock. There are just as many snobs in the south as there are anywhere else.

Charleston SC is awesome. I usually go to Sullivan's Island just north of there but it is all the same. Love that place, amazing beaches, fun town. I've been to Savannah and the two aren't really comparable IMO.

Nothing wrong w/ personal preference. If you're looking for a more leisurely time w/ a bit of an older crowd, Savannah is prob a better fit. Charleston is def the place to be, though, if you're a post grad.

The dream of owning a home there is what gets me up to go to work every day.

Well, I'm not really into the party scene anymore. I'd rather kick back at an old bar with a beer and just relax.
