Gonna be there for a week in July. Does anyone have any recommendations on lures, baits, tactics, or good spots. I figured I'd bass fish mostly but i'm open to all species. I'll be staying near the Lakeshore Inn in double springs... so places closer to that would be preferable. Thanks in advance.

Great lake for striped bass fishing. No clue how to find them and what to use. I'll ask a friend. He's taken me a few times, and we've trolled to catch them. Caught a few ~20 pounds.
He's closer to the Jasper side of the lake though, which is a pretty good distance from that area.

If you're willing to drive and want something different, you're about 40 minutes away from Alabama's only Rainbow trout fishery.

Smith Lake is a deep clear spotted bass lake for the most part. July will be in the dead of the summer bite. Most of the big spotted bass will be out on main lake points and humps holding on man made brush piles
Drop shot during the day will be good along with casting jigs in the brush piles. Mornings and afternoon should give you some topwater action.
Also, there are a lot of deep docks on Smith that will hold fish in the shade during the summer
Drop shot
Worm rigged on a 1/4oz jighead
Topwater (Walking baits)
I would look during the day in the 20-30 foot range for man made structure and fish around it

This man has the plan
I hate to disappoint the OP, fishing will likely be slow and hot-as-hades.
That time of year, you might consider some night fishing with black-lights if the lake wasn't so dang deep

Sipsey Fork below the dam. DCNR has stocked Rainbow trout year-round there since the 1970s. It's the only place in the state where the water stays cool and oxygenated enough for trout to survive the summer. It's designed to be a put-and-take fishery, but there are holdover trout so you can catch good fish too.
Be warned, however, it is a legitimate trout river and they can be fickle. Also, always be ready to get out of the water when the siren sounds warning that they're about to start releasing from the dam.
Outdoor Alabama (State DCNR) page
Riverside Fly Shop - these guys are right at the turnoff to the dam and a must-visit if you're going there for the first time.

I've waded the Caney Fork River between Nashville and Cookville and used pieces of green giant corn on a small hook. They are fun to catch and the clear water makes it challenging. But the coolness of the water makes it very pleasant to wade in the worst of summer.

The Sipsey can be flat-out COLD even in the dead of summer.
When it's 95, stepping into water that's 55 will trigger serious shrinkage.

The weather is supposed to be fantastic next week. 83-87 degree highs and low 60s at night. I'm hoping the rain this weekend will oxygenate the water and help with the topwater bite. I've been doing some research and plan on rocking the plastics in the morning shaky style which is new to me i'm used to texas or carolina rig. I was gonna try some swimbaits mid day around 11-1 and head back for lunch and maybe get back out on the water around 4:30ish for some afternoon fishing. I'm gonna be there all week so i may spread it out some. Family member has a cabin and i haven't really done much fishing just a little bit mostly by kayak near the cabin in morning and afternoon with only a little success. worst case scenario i get plenty of sun and drink plenty of beers.
Thanks to all!
Thanks to all!
