I went last week with about seven people. A couple had never been before. Nobody took anything and nobody threw up. That's because nobody was worried about throwing up. The person that throws up is always the person that's worried about it before the trip. I think it's more mental than anything.

But if he is 80 maybe he needs to. He doesn't even need to go unless he is in pretty damn good shape for someone that age or he will fall down.

Stand back by the motor. Fuel smell does wonders for sea sickness.

Back of the boat does wonders, period.

At the first sick feeling go ahead and throw up. You'll feel better quick. You'll only make it worse if you fight it.

Man I would have him check with his doctor first. That sea sick medicine might conflict with any medication he might be taking.

Your boat or charter?

If its on your boat you have all the options. You might consider staying close to shore in case of emergency. 8 hours is a long time for someone his age to be out on a boat. Could put some undue stress on him.

If it were me and my dad at that age, I think I would just take him flounder gigging.

This is not true at all. I get motion sick worse than anyone I know.
Hell I even got a little sea sick on a big arse cruise ship.
