Jonesboro actually reminded me of Starkville in some ways

That's interesting. I know it is a growing town, and I've heard they've been improving their development patterns and infrastructure over there. I've just never really been, apart from one short visit. It's a further drive from Fayetteville than Plano, Texas.

I saw UCA upset state there a couple years ago. They had a Grove-like tailgate spot right by the home grandstand. You could leave the game, drink, go back in the game. I was kinda jealous. You cant do that at big schools. They had 4 or 5 decent bars/restaurants downtown. Better than other college towns of that size. And not too far from Memphis if you really want to have more fun

SNHU in new hampshire has 87,000 online students... so naturally it is number 1 in that state.

What is Kentucky's? It looks like the old community college logos I would see in places like Paducah, Hopkinsville, Owensboro, etc.

Arkansas Tech is a salt-of-the-earth type place.

I like Tech just fine, really do, but of all things - Tuesday there was a protest and counter protest mess going on. There was some scholarship they were starting in honor of a longtime professor well supposedly the guy was a Holocaust denier, so some folks were going to protest that and then some white supremacist fool decides to protest that protest.

Well now the rumor is that the prof wasn't even a holocaust denier - his former students came out on his behalf- saying that he and an english professor didn't get along and the english professor started that rumor years ago to hurt the other guys rep.

You ever been there? It's most dreary/ depressing place I've ever been. The students are in danger from self-harm from having to live there

We prefer to think of it as 'quiet'.

There are much worse places to go to school.

It is a very good school academically and my niece wants to go there one day. Purdue itself is great, it's just the town of West Lafayette that I wasn't a fan of.

But please, for the sake of God, y'all need to stop trying to do BBQ.

I spent almost 2 years working just north of Indy, since I'm from Alabama one of my coworkers loved to tell me about the time he spent in Texas (bc apparently that's the south and that's the same ) and how great the BBQ was there (lol, briskets), and how he hated how Indiana lacked many good BBQ places. But he spent a couple weeks raving about this place in West Lafayette that he claimed was authentic southern BBQ and almost as good as the places he had been in Texas. Finally I went up there with him and he was so excited about it. It was a fricking joke. The pulled pork was dry and without much flavor to the point where I was forced to put sauce on it (real BBQ shouldn't need sauce tbh, but a good sauce is awesome). They had several different types of sauces in different styles from around the country, all of them tasted like Great Value imitations of the real thing. The "authentic southern sides" we're an affront to my tastebuds. Even the decorations were insulting, they had a burlap sack on the wall that said "Alabama Potatoes", I'm from Alabama we don't grow fricking potatoes here, that's Idaho.

I can't remember the name of the place but it was next door to a Greek/ Mediterranean place that actually wasn't too bad.

I can't argue at all. I have no idea how the football team recruits anybody -- the best we can say is "Well, it's only a couple hours to Chicago."

But it is a good school, and I have no reason to doubt it's statistically pretty safe. I hope your niece gets here and enjoys the hell out of it.

Let’s be real here.

How does any team that isn’t Bama or have a winning history recruit their kids?
Columbia isn’t some amazing metropolis that college grads are flocking to with their resumes.
It’s a college town.

And even Bama, outside of winning titles you think kids give a shite about Tuscaloosa? No.

Unless your campus is in Iraq I really don’t think that’s an issue.

There are too many variables (campus size, location, number of students, culture, etc.) for the comparisons to be fair or accurate.

I agree. One that stands out to me is Lakeland (Ohio), which is a community college in a nice suburb of Cleveland. Hard to compare that with Ohio State or UC.

Is that USM for Mississippi?? If so, that is way wrong lol. Nothing about Hattiesburg is remotely safe compared to Oxford and Starkville.
