Nest raiders are a real thing while the parents are gone.

And there is one bird that will do the opposite. It'll put it's eggs to another birds nest and leave them there for the other birds to raise them.

Pretty much anything that would eat the eggs and/or young ones.

There are a few of them that do it, but for entertainment purposes I will say one of them is called the Cuckoo.

They will lay their eggs in the nest while the parents are away and the parents don't know it when they come back. The other parents raise the bird as their own, the Cuckoo goes on about it's life.

Sometimes they'll even destroy the other eggs to give their young a better chance, and often times the young are bigger than the original hosts young and they get all the food and/or kill the others anyway.

They are called brood parasites.

There are bird nest streams on the internet. I'm not a bird person but I know a guy who watches the shite out of them and he occasionally sends a link etc to things.

I was kind of surprised because I'm dumb and was always told never to touch a birds eggs/young because the parents would abandon the eggs and here is this entire species dropping the kids off at the pool and never coming back. Kind of blows that whole claim out of the water.
