Thank you for your kind thoughts!

With a pack o hounds to care for it can be exhausting, but it keeps me going as well. The secret to longevity in the South.

Gardening (mostly vegetables for me but I do some ascetic and well)
&
Dogs (Cheese Grits is my name, mutt hound rescues is my game)

Back in the late 60's or early 70's there was local watering hole with the following sign in the window.

"If you drive your husband to drink,
please drive him here."

Sly Fox - Let's Go All The Way

Holy smokes, I literally can't remember the last time I heard that one.

(And for some reason I would've guessed it was by Milli Vanilli.)

Great find.

I need someone to show me the ropes on modern country that doesn't sound like "bro country."

I lost touch with it after all the outlaws and gritty drunks died out.

What's the modern equivalent of Hank Jr., Waylon, DAC, Merle, etc.?

Are Cody Jinks and Jamey Johnson all that's left?

I have no idea about Cody Jenks - young guys think he's awesome but they never point you to a great song

the youngest guys I like I guess are Zac Brown Band and I like a couple of Jason Aldean's songs, and hell I guess they aren't much younger than us

when them whoevers put out newer stuff, you can tell they're trying to "act old", "act fricking classic" and it's just damn cringe

I wish the newbies would stop naming names, saying "Merle" and saying "Johnny" as lyrics.

How about this newbies. Shut the frick up and write some damn lyrics. Quit letting little Nashville figs write your lyrics for you.

Waspie, my only humble advice would be the listen to everything the Turnpike Troubadours do. They are my favorite country act of all time I think, right up there with Conway Twitty and Don Williams and them

Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Turnpike as HRV mentioned. I like 49 Winchester. Zach Top has that early 90s sound, but his covers are better than his originals. I like a lot of Zach Bryan although some of his lyrics sound deeper than they actually are. Red Clay Strays are really good, too.
