Huskies Cut Athl Dept Budget

The Players have the leverage now, time to boycott for larger Stipends, without the 2 Revenue Sports, all these Athl Depts are up shite creek with no paddle

The 2 Revenue Sports will never have more leverage in the future than they have now, forget State Flags young men the time is now to pursue the Money

Where are all those experts that claimed "the Coaches generate the Revenue"?

I'd love to see CV19 wipe out this season just to see Athl Depts be forced to go to the NCAA and the Federal Courts asking for T9 exemptions because those Sports lose money every year and never earn a dime

Losing the 2020 season would be a fair trade off if it meant culling the herd of welfare non Revenue Sports and other welfare entities in College Athl Depts

A 5% cut is nowhere close to "slashing".

Weird interpretation. Washington has to make cuts somewhere, and they took it out of the AD because they actually give a shite about academics.

Honestly makes me respect them even more than I already did. Really good school.

Pay reductions are 5% , on top of that is a 15% cut in overall Athl Dept operating expenses

Speaking of revenue cuts, what the heck is going on down at
North Ave? GT budget cuts

quote:

By the guidance of the furlough plan — Lewis said that the department will align with the USG and institute furlough program — faculty and staff making $154,000 or more in base salary will have 16 unpaid days off for a 6.2% reduction in pay. That tier would include many Tech coaches (starting with football coach Geoff Collins, basketball coaches Nell Fortner and Josh Pastner, baseball coach Danny Hall and a number of assistant coaches) as well as athletic director Todd Stansbury.

You guys gonna be able to hold on to any coaches?Betcha Brent Key is regretting his move from Bama... already taking a cut from his Bama pay.

quote:

and spending for uniforms and equipment is planned to be cut from $1 million to $657,000.

Uniforms? Geez, can't find any alums that can cough up $350k for uniforms? Thought your grads were rolling in money.

Agree completely; universities are institution of learning. And these cuts are just the beginning. Before this is all over, these "student" athletes are going with Covid-19 and BLM never existed because the current environment is going to create economic hardship across the board and athletics is going to be expendable.

GT Alums are cheapskate assholes when it comes to donating to Sports Programs

I thought the new Contract with Adidas would have taken care of Unis and ancillary swag that an Athl Dept needs, so I'm surprised the Uni budget is being cut

Fixed that for you

Many or Most P5 Colleges have extensive long term debt to service due to the "facilities arms race", when you combine that with the Salaries that Athl Depts pay to the Adminstrative Staff, those people aren't just gonna let Revenue Sports die

The SEC & The Big10 distrbute any where from $45 million to $48 million to each member of the conference, they aren't going to just let Revenue Sports fade away and ignore all that Money

An AD that usually has a fancy MBA isn't going to allow his $1.5 million per year Job to cease to exist and see his pay drop to $300K per year if big time College Sports goes away

In summary, there's too much Money involved in P5 Revenue Sports for all those highly paid intelligent people associated with P5 Sports to just allow that financial model to just crumble without putting up a fight to save their cash cows

Now the non Revenue Welfare Sports, they might be facing some hard times

C'mon, all those old school real estate moguls like Taz Anderson,John Aderhold or Kim King would never let this happen.

Heck, its a drop in the bucket for Tom Fanning (SOCO CEO)

Somebody needs to do a better job in the fund raising dept

Who is "they?" The school or alums?

Hell, all those old Bobby Dodd guys essentially saved the athletic program back in the late 70's/early 80's and it wasn't just a "drop in the bucket" for em. And all schools care about academics when it comes to fund raising.

All those I named except for Tom Fanning are dead and I think they woulda stepped up had they still been around.

Point is, that you guys had a pretty rich tradition of alums stepping up and contributing to athletics but it was probably more important to the older generations of GT grads
