i mean weve been to 31 finals in our 64 seasons. thats basically 1 every 2 years. when he fails to make the finals next year, he will officially be below average. yet we are going to keep him because we cant pay for 2 coaches who dont coach the team. i hate jim buss and his hires
ETA: not trying to turn this into a laker circle jerk thread, but this is how i need to vent about dantoni, by showing how woeful he is in regards to our standards because like us or not, being the head coach of the fricking los angeles lakers brings standards

That's absolutely unreal
As a Grizz fan, I'm ecstatic that they have made the playoffs 3 years in a row, and have had their most wins in a season ever. I can't imagine having a record like that.

These next couple of offseasons are going to be very interesting. Gonna determine the direction of the franchise.

we are going to give dwight control of the ship which i am very uncomfortable about. dantoni is coming back next year for sure but i dont know about anything past that. problem is we dont have any draft picks because of our trades this summer and that is not how you want to build a core...having no draft picks

Yeah that is scary. Is it pretty certain that Dwight stays tho?

Spur I work with two Nugget fans. They are talking trash about altitude etc already. I usually don't respond but I will now. I'm going to use my clients also to do it.

pretty much. we can offer him more money and an extra year and the lakers have never lost someone who they truly wanted to free agency. him leaving will be a huge surprise and will be the signal that as a franchise, we are entering uncharted waters with jim buss

I'll start the free UMRealist thread. They're gonna come down hard on you for that shite

I'm not sure that Howard is a bad fit. I think he has to get a guard willing to run pick/roll with him. I also think the Triangle isn't the right offense for him though.

i agree which is why i want him to come back. this team is built around kobe though, so as long as he is on the team, we should run the triangle. sadly dantoni doesnt run anything. we would be unstoppable on offense by entering the post into gasol or howard, not have gasol drift out to 18 feet every time down the floor

Dantoni runs pick/roll I'm not sure that the team wanted to run it. You get Gasol and Artest out of there you can run a solid offense. I think Gasol had a ton of bad influence. He never bought into Brown or Dantoni

Well, unless you call SSOL + _efense "something"

quote:thats what i meant. he ran his pick and roll with a team that wanted to run phil jacksons offense. pick and roll wasnt going to work with this team. i agree if take out gasol and artest, he is the posterboy for taking an offense out of its rythym, we can run a pretty successful high screen and roll with either kobe/dwight from the wing or nash/dwight from the high post. but with the team as constructed, we had to run triangle through kobe with dwight howard playing weak side who could flash across the middle or clean up on the glass while gasol plays down on the strong side low block.
I'm not sure that the team wanted to run it.
with that said, a couple of times i was really intrigued by gasol/dwight pick and roll that they ran a couple of times. i thought that was actually a very smart thing to play considering how good of a passer and how much gasol understands the game. sadly we didnt run as much of it as i had hoped

You know if it was a bad offense then they wouldn't ran it in Olympics. I think that's why Gasol hated it. He didn't know how to defend it. Jmo, but you need to know how to defend an offense to run it. You need to know the weak link to keep teams from forcing you to it.

once again. i agree that if we did not have pau gasol or ron artest, we could run a pretty successful p&r with kobe, howard, nash, clark, and maybe morris as a long and athletic starting 5. but because we have pau gasol, who i agree never wanted to play p&r and that is obvious, we needed to play phil jacksons triangle. we won 5 championships off of it by using kobe to facilitate the offense through an elite strong side low post scorer. that was how this team was built because we had gasol.
