That's good news Wtodd. Hopefully the antibiotics will knock it all the way out.

Thanks.....that's what I'm shooting for too.

This is for those that have surgical experience with the VA; either to you or someone close to you that you know they're either good or bad.
Do you trust the VA enough for them to operate on you? Not some minor surgery but more high risk like removing a tumor/nodule from your lung? They don't know if it's benign or not and it's pretty small. They might be able to get biopsy but that's not a 100% guarantee.
Bc the VA has such a sketchy history, I don't really trust them but I could be wrong on my opinion of them.
I'm still going to get a second opinion from Moffitt or someplace else, I just need to get some real opinions.
TIA
UPDATE #1 - OK went to the VA ENT on Wednesday so they could check out my tonsils - no issues
Went to Moffitt today and the thoracic surgeon looked at the CT and PET scans and believes either I have an ongoing infection or am at the end of an infection in my lung. The area of concern is 1/2" X 1/4" so it's quite small; doing a biopsy isn't really an option bc it's so small and where it's located. He put me on an antibiotic for 3 months and I go back to see him in Jan (I'll get another CT scan when I go see him).
Yeah damn good news.
IF it's not an infection, then it's cancer but he didn't seem too concerned that it was.
UPDATE #2
They did a lung biopsy on Monday; results no cancer. It appears the nodule was an old infection that was dying out. I'll go back to Moffitt in 4 months for a CT scan to make sure it's not doing anything stupid like growing.

Let me just say my interactions with the VA have been positive. I've used them twice. Once inside 50 miles of a VA facility and once outside. Never got a bill from the one outside, and had great initial and follow-up support for the one inside.

Glad to hear you’re well. I’d echo the sentiment that VAs are very hit or miss. I will say that if you ever are sent to an on-base hospital for anything and your surgeon and/or physician is not military or former military I’d be very cautious. Most of those people are there because they can’t hack it in private practice. I did a rotation through a somewhat notorious on-base facility and I wouldn’t let the non-military docs come anywhere near me or my family. Saw two walked off the base with security escorts within 3 months

I've heard mostly bad about the VA in Jackson, MS, but good things about the VA in P'cola and Tampa. I am retired National Guard with 32 years, but also have TriCare for Life and Federal Employee Blue Cross. I never plan on using the VA.
