I used to go to both Talladega races every year. From what I surmised, a lot of them are self-employed. Plumbers, HVAC guys, contractors, etc., that just don't work those 2 weeks. Others just burn vacation time. Most people didn't get there until Thursday or Friday though.
I never quite understood what the appeal was. The races were fun, but some of those people are way too invested in their chosen guy.

Didn't see the appeal either to being at the track other than the race. Did go one time in college and slept in a camper on the infield. Race day there were a ton of sorority and fraternity girls/guys in the general area we were. Ended up being like an outdoor fraternity/sorority party with a race going on around. Was actually pretty fun. The race itself is really cool for about the first 20 or 30 laps. As you often hear TV doesn't do the cars and track justice. Pretty amazing sights and sounds with 40+ cars going 190+ mph through steep banking. Could care less about going again but it's definitely a bucket list thing I'd recommend doing one time.
