Both were excellent...still are!
MOP wins easily though.
What about ..And Justice For All Vs Symphony Of Destruction?
Once again...both are excellent. Justice wins though. MOP and Justice for All are two of the most epic albums ever produced...Period. End of debate. Everything else falls short.

Intriguing question; I love both of the those bands. Overall, Metallica's body of work is stronger than Megadeth's, but a few of Megadeth's best rival Metallica's top works. I think I enjoy Holy Wars a bit more than Master of Puppets; probably because the primary guitar solo is more imaginative, brutal and intense. Master of Puppet's solo is longer, but kind of melancholy, which is appropo given the subject of the lyrics.
One of my favorite Metallica v Megadeth compare and contrast pairs exists with Mechanix (from Killing is My Business) and Four Horsemen (on Kill'm All). Same core score but the lyrics and timing differ. Back then, their styles were both relatively raw. That's another case where I give the nod to Megadeth.
