I don't disagree with the sentiment. But shooting a perp with a little kid in his arms would, I hope, be the last resort. I don't think that would be their first choice of action. In this case, that judgement was made that it was the best thing to do. Good for the cops for getting the child away safely.

Shoulda shot his knees, murder is never the answer, but you can't just let the sick bastard hurt the little girl. Gotta be tough when a decision like that needs to be made.

The pain would probably have caused him to drop the child. Regardless, if you feel like the best option is to shoot the guy holding a small child in his arms, I think you have to take him out and pray he doesn't move at the last minute and cause you to shoot the child.

Normally I'm all for trying to resolve these situations without anyone getting hurt. This isn't one of those times.
This guy wasn't coherent. He was counting down and could have cut this poor child at anytime with a lapse in what he was thinking (or lack of) at any time.
In my opinion, they did the right thing.
